Payment Option Suggestion (poll)

Has Unity considered an option to pay for various pro feature per feature?

Speaking as a hobbyist, I would LOVE to tinker with different parts of Pro, but lack the $1500 to do so, and I am unwilling to commit to a full year of payments of $75 a month.

But I would absolutely pay ~$150 for LOD, or ~$200 for async loading.

I couldn’t possibly be the only one, right?

I mean, if the pro features were cut up into pieces that could be unlocked and the total costs of the all the pieces cost twice as much as the pro version Unity would be making more money that way too.

Would anyone else be interested in that option?

6 months from now most people with this idea, if not all with this idea, will ask again but won’t realise that since then if they saved the money they wanted to spend each month or pay for a certain features they could have had enough to buy pro. But they don’t becuase they didn’t bother to save. If they didn’t bother to save it’s most probably that they couldn’t afford it.

Yet, 6 months pass and they ask for unity to go cheapo.

What about saving your pennies for as long as it takes?

Here is a better idea. If you were serious then you would spend that 6 months bringing to completion 2-3 small games with unity free. It does allow brilliant games to be made, you know. Shadows and LOD, async? What, you can’t make your game without these? Or are you that far in dream land making an MMORPG, Super AAA badass mofo game, that it obscures the reality of your situation?

Start Saving…No?

Ok!

Start coding mini games and release them…No?

Ok!

Stay in dream land then.

It would be interesting to see,I imagine more people are likely to impulse buy a feature for a few hundred dollars then the whole thing for $1500.

Personally, I think the core issue with the pricing is that it is $1500 per platform instead of $1500 total. I don’t think breaking off individual Pro features into $150 purchases is the best path for Unity or for customers. Honestly, $1500 is not that much money for most people, but $4500 is. If Unity simply included all Pro features on all platforms in a single $1500 Pro license, I think that would solve the pricing debate for most users.

I want the whole thing, I don’t wanna keep thinking about which feature I bought and which feature I didn’t. But then again I can’t afford the whole thing. I agree with ShilohGames though. :stuck_out_tongue:
