This (http://tortoisesvn.net/howpaypalscrewsopensourceprojects.html) and what these paypals (the bad guys) have done to wikileaks is my reason to cancel my account at paypal. Would you guys, plugin developers please consider also other methods of payment. I would like to continue buying your excellent plugins in the future. Thanks!
Interestingly I never had problems.
Cases where I know that problems happened in the past were either:
- Unverified accounts (there its normally a user error as they forget the limits you have as unverified)
- When the user had a rather dubious amount of cashflow where the internal banking laws require them to freeze it until the sources are cleared (when they come through the SF donation system though it shouldn’t be a matter there unless they had people really donate insane amounts of cash)
- when they were americans most commonly but sometimes also uk or ozeanias. For the US ones at least (potentially UK and ozeania too) this was is unpleasant but basically a problem they didn’t prevent happening as PayPal and similar systems were forced to branch out their internal handling due to US legislation and the significant impact on their international customers.
I’ve been using PayPal since its earlierst days when people didn’t trust their CC here in europe and even less online payment (ie I could count the people in my surrounding that did only payments with a single hand … ah good old 33k and 56k days ^^), when paypal had to send you physical letters for verification and did nuts bank account verification with test transfers with an unlock key in the message and other funny things like that which luckily no logner are required since the break of PayPal US and PayPal international (luckily cause these verifications took up to 2 weeks to finally show up)
Unfortunately other payment sites always seem to have issues like not being available in various countries, or other limitations. Anyway all my utilities are either on the Unity Asset Store or have been submitted, so that’s probably the best way to get them.

Indeed. The only somewhere globally usable system otherwise is moneybookers but real usage for it only happens in europe, if at all
Paypal was once cool, a time ago, not anymore, not for me.
I think I will be fine with purchasing via the asset store, this is via credit card as far as I remember.
secure alternative is also click and buy, though a bit pricey.
They also accept Paypal.

Thats nicely put. Depending on the country its that expensive or troublesome that it makes no sense at all to use it
I use the Asset Store through paypal as thats where the vast majority of all my income goes through which isn’t a trivial amount and so far I didn’t have any probs otherwise I would write from below a “3 star bridge - ie bridge with RJ45 and electricity”
a paypal employee was nice enough to let slip that paypal fold fairly fast and cough up if you go through the eu small claims court
I lost £30 as paypal decided to close one of my older accounts without notice. I didn’t bother chasing that up but nowadays i withdraw fast and keep a token amount in for purchases.
@Eric5h5 I suggest Unity doesn’t go for the paypals solely. I wouldn’t be able to buy any new versions of Unity any longer. I’m serious about that. I simply don’t like paypal spitting on people’s heads.
