PC / Mac licensing

I just purchased Unity Pro, Android, and iPhone Pro. I was able to install to my laptop. I was going to install another copy on my workstation but I realize that I may have a problem when it comes to iPhone development.

It seems that I can only publish to iPhone from a Mac. I have a Mac but it’s not my primary workstation - for that I personally prefer a PC/Win7 workstation (3D Max for assets). I guess I could give up the laptop but I was looking forward to using the commute time productively.

Any one have any ideas? Is there any way to publish iPhone apps on Win7? Has anyone tried a Hackintosh in a VM? Would that require another license?

it requires a mac, because unity iphone requires XCode to publish to the iphone

so i would say no, there is no way to publish to iphone from windows 7

i would not recommend a hackintosh in a vm, because from the beginning running a cracked operating system is a pain and definitely a liability for your projects and more running under a virtual machine, that surely is a recipe for disaster

My guess is that allowing you to do this or indeed discussing possible solutions is something Unity cannot allow. They have an agreement with Apple and they’re already having to contend with licensing issues which Apple haven’t (yet) acted upon. If it became possible for people to build for iPhone on Windows, I’m guessing Unity would officially join the (internal) list of prohibited development tools quick smart, and Unity developers would find their apps disappearing from the App Store.

So while I’m not finding any fault with you for asking or indeed pursuing a method of doing it, don’t be surprised if UT or indeed Unity developers don’t much like the idea.

OK. Thanks for the replies. My best solution might be to get a MacBook for the commute/iPhone publishing and and use my Win7 workstation for the rest.

Thanks again for the feedback.
