PC Psychic Controller Hits This Year

“Emotiv also plans to release an software development kit to the game development community.”

It looks very interesting. I’m glad to see that it comes with keyboard mapping software. But, I didn’t see any mention of OS X and Linux, so I bet it is Windows only.

People with disabilities could certainly benefit from this technology.

Very true, it say’s a PC game will come with it. I am hoping that the SDK could at least be ported to Unity (some magical way) since I’ve heard of the Space Navigator for the IDE, and the Wii remote for gameplay… perhaps this could happen also! Talk about taking it to the next level…

To be honest… I’m just looking forward to never having to use my hands and voice to work on a project.

I really don’t see UT adding support for it to Unity. There isn’t native support for the SpaceNavigator in Unity. Some are using ControllerMate so that they can get some use of it in Unity, but it isn’t the same. Most companies just don’t want to spend the time to add support for input devices that a majority of their user’s don’t have. They would rather focus on features that benefit everyone. That’s why I’m glad to see Emotiv has keyboard mapping software, that alone should make it compatible with everything, or at least everything on the same OS.

I love my SpaceNavigator, but at some point it will probably end up in a box in the closet. I only have 2 apps that support it correctly, both of which are Windows only. I’m trying to switch completely to OS X. So if and when I replace those apps with OS X equivalents (that probably won’t work with the SN), I won’t have any use for the SpaceNavigator.

Don’t slip on the ice.
