Hi,
I wanted to see how to get (or if I need) permission to include a modified version of the free Unity Space Shooter Tutorial as a special add-on to my project, Trilleon .
This Trilleon asset will be free and open source when released.
The purpose would be to write out a simple suite of integration automation tests that use various features of the Trilleon automation framework, with the purpose ultimately being to offer a real-world implementation.
There is so much functionality in the framework that no simple tutorial can cover everything in one reasonable chunk. That being said, I have a good bit of tutorial written on www.trilleonautomation.wiki, and I have video tutorials planned. But, speaking for myself, I learn fastest when I can see existing examples, and just dive right in.
I know that Unity is very open about the use of their free assets, but I don’t want to overstep.
Thanks!
One bump. If I can make sure it’s okay, I’d be super happy. Also, just want to namedrop the Cham. I suspect it won’t be a problem. Perhaps we can send an email directly to a contact if need be.
Thanks!
I’d also be interested in finding out, as I have a modified version of the Space Shooter tutorial in my project. There are three games in mine, one of which is the shooter tutorial, although it is explained that I only included it as I like playing it, and it will probably not be updated, although the other two games will be, as they are the main part of the project.
The Unity Space Shooter Tutorial assets are downloaded from the Asset Store, so are distributed under the same license as all other assets from the store. The license does not allow for redistribution of the asset outside of a completed game or media application, and does not allow for the source to be included into another open source project, same as any other asset downloaded from the store.
See Appendix 1, section 2.2
So you’re going to need someone from Unity’s legal team to release it under a separate license to you. I doubt that would happen in response to a forum post.
