I would like to offer the opportunity to meet one of our developers at the Unite 2009, starting today in San Francisco.
Boris is one of our server engineers and took about 2 weeks to get a into Unity. Within this time, he created a Photon MMO Showcase within the Unity Island Demo.
If you like to see the demo in action and have technical questions, get to know Photon and Exit Games or are just curious: write a quick mail to info[at]exitgames.com and please do not forget to suggest time date.
I, too would be really interested in seeing the demo, but unfortunately I won’t be at Unite. I hope that this demo is made available to potential Photon customers somehow.
For everyone with dried out money tree (not attending the Unite 2009): We will release the MMO Demo and code somewhere in November.
As always, this will include the critical server- and client-side code, so it’s very customizable. The focus is less a complete solution but on a solid framework that is performing well and easy to adapt.
I am looking forward to get your feedback, when it’s out!
Shameless plug by me, photon rocks for Unity, very strong stuff, only issues I have right now are personal ones on my interpretation and extrapolation code that I have written, thats all me though, has nothing to do with photon. If you have the money for it, it is well worth the price.
Looking forward to give it a checkout.
I prefer having solid frameworks to build upon instead of having to ripp apart a “single solution focused” solution to get that functionality I need.
We do not support Unity iPhone Basic, but yes, as well as Unity Pro and Unity iPhone Advanced, we also support Unity Indie for both, Neutron and Photon.
Looking forward to try it out and give as indepth feedback on it as I’m capable of
Photon is definitely a very strong option with a good bangs/bucks ratio
Sorry for being so mum about this. The demo should be coming this week.
We have refactored the complete server-side code as it was based only remotely on what we did for the “Lite” application. Now it should be closer to what you (might) know.
Some other news: we don’t have it on our pages yet but there will be new “Indie Licenses” for Photon and also for Neutron. For Photon this means $100 for 50 concurrent users on one application and server machine. Upgrades are just the difference between licenses, so you can always scale up without downside.
Also, we are working on a new website with more (useful) features for you. But that’s a different story.
It would be great if you had a Free 10 concurrent users on one application and server machine Indie License that would replace the 30 day trial as 30 days may sound like a lot of time but for me 30 days seems like a week.
That way new users could have the time to test learn and up grade with ease.
Wow, this is all really great news. The indie license sounds perfect for development and early testing. I for one, will be definitely be purchasing it.
Also looking forward to the demo and the new resources on the site. Sounds good!
Yes I like that idea too, it is similar to what smart fox does, and I think it allows indie’s to really start using your product without the financial risk.
