photoshop importing error - quad tiled heightmaps due to channels

i am taking a color image and converting it to grey in photoshop and exporting it as raw, and in unity it looks like it has been tiled into 4 different heightmaps. how do i save my color maps into normal greyscale heightmap?

found the answer: RGBA photoshop raw files save 4 layers, so you want to convert to greyscale, image>mode>greyscale something like that. after it doesnt say any non-interleaved etc, you dont want leaves you want greyscale! save as tiff or bmp prior to raw if you are working from a new file. until you know the save errors it does from new canvases.
