PHRED going into alpha testin

Hey everyone,

With our first game PHRED going into alpha testing, I thought it may be time to start a WIP thread here. Below is a link to our blog where we cover the progress of the game and a whole lot of other game related stuff. Also here’s a few early production stills.

The game is a bit different than much of what’s out there as it has deeper game play and strategy than you typically find on mobile games, offers universal interoperability (save on any device, and pick back up exactly where you left off on any other device, phone, tablet, desktop, laptop), and has an open character development concept rather than forcing the character into a narrowly defined class. We are diving into the deep end and going entirely F2P (and yes, that’s free to play, not pay to win) to be funded by IAP and ads. Let us know what you think.

How do u get that borderlands look?

And I apparently lost a “g” on the title of my fist post, here’s a fun little graphic that gives the back story of the game:

Of course, if you’re so inclined, you can also find us on Facebook

Or, you could also follow us on twitter @crowquillgames. We’re jubilantly grateful for any and all support. It’ aint’ easy bein’ an indie.

All the textures are hand drawn, then we use a toon shader to put the outline around everything and give it the final hand drawn look. The name of our company “Crow Quill Games” came from the traditional artist pen used in the comic book industry. The plan is for all our games to have the hand drawn, “comic book” look to them. It’s kind of our thing. Our art director Emi Yonemura is a comic book artist and did a lot of work to create the look of the game. Jose, our 3d modeler and animator did a bang up job of making that vision happen. Good people make cool stuff. I love the team I get to work with.

Looks awesome!

Only thing I’d suggest is working some of that awesome palette from the comic into the game. Those retro pinks and gradients look wicked!

Keen to see more!

the art looks absolutely amazing, I especially love how you got it rendered in the game to look like a comic book! Gj!

I’m also going to have to say that the art style does look superb, very consistent fun thematic look. Marcos suggestions on the gradient’s would make it look even better! I hope the gameplay and controls are on par with the graphics.

Good luck with your game, looking forward to see more!

I like it. The style is great.

This is looking awesome!
Cant wait to see where this goes

I love it so much! i would definitely buy it!!

I completely agree =)

Thanks for the support everyone. We will keep this thread updated as things progress.

Is this going to be a open world game or a story/campaign game?

Actually there are three phases of roll out for PHRED planned on our road map. The first is a single player story driven campaign game. The second is a one on one, P v P version of the game. Rather than solely focused on direct conflict (though that would be one strategy), this second phase is essentially a “frag the other guy” race where killing the other player, setting boobie traps for him, or just leading the enemies to him and being quick enough to run away are all viable strategies as would be just reaching the goal first fair and square. The third phase is the same P v P mode but with team functionality implemented which should change the strategies substantially.

Cool sounds interesting
