You should look a lot of those up. Multiple are already in use. Also, you may want to change “studio” to “entertainment” or “software” or something of the like for the names.
What’s wrong with ‘studio’?
It’s just that studio is often used by the kids who claim they own companies. I just associate it with little kids who don’t know what they’re doing. If you think about it, there really are very few game studios that actually call themselves “blank studios” relative to how many actual studios there are. Also, studio doesn’t roll off the tongue as nicely as software or entertainment.
I recommend Silverback Studio though using Games and/or Studios sounds kind of pretentious. I’d search to see if it’s in use in your ‘business genre’ yet. If you say Studio instead of Studios people will assume you are moonlighting and not overreaching with grandiose claims. Avoid Gamez, Games, and so on…
On second thought just say Silverback that is concise and humble. It’s the product(s) will get you noticed not the name.
Among those choice provided, I pick either Aurora or Calisia. Both sounds very cool.
There are already studios named Aurora (not necessarily for games). The name is a bit too common. Also, it’s the location of the recent massacre at the premier of The Dark Knight Rises. Calisia is what I would choose.
Thanks for the feedback! We’re really glad that there’s a discussion about it:) It’s always better to know the full opinion of the voters than only the vote. And i understand what rab236 is trying to say. Most of the companies has a “Studio” in their name and “Entertainment” sounds a little better, but not always. And as some of You mentioned Calisia, it’s the latin name of the city that we’re from, that’s Kalisz in Poland. It’s over 2000 years old.
Do they have to have either Studios or Entertainment in the name? Most professionals don’t do that FYI.
There’s often something, be it studio, entertainment, software, arts, games, etc.
Most every company has something to that extent at the end of their name. “Epic Games”, “Microsoft Studios”, “Rovio Entertainment”, etc.
It can be a good indicator of what your company is about.
Also: Pick your own name. Yes it’s hard, but something as critical as your corporate identity is too important to delegate.
Pick your name based on who you want to appeal to - not how you see yourself. The name should reflect how you want them to see you and the product you make. “Bad Boys Entertainment” sounds like they make shooter games about cops gone bad. “Pure Fun Games” sounds like they make quirky puzzle games and “Flying Chicken Entertainment” sound like they make cartoon games about animals.
I’m guessing that you’re not hoping to appeal to game developers so this probably isn’t the right forum. Do you need to get funding from external backers - in which case your name should appeal to them. Otherwise your name and game format should be appropriate for the target audience who will buy your games.
In this day and age, it’s hard to find a name not taken. I would recommend a name in a foreign language that has a meaning. For example when you look at the name Bethesda, it’s a Hebrew word for “House of Grace”.
Bethesda named themselves after the area they lived in which was named after that :P.
The survey is just a way we thought would be fun and fair to pick a name. There is 7 of us and basically each one of us had his own idea. You can see how different the names are. After few days we will have enough opinions to pick 3-5 names and then just sit and talk about ideas of how it should work.
What Broken Toy and Harissa said is unfortunately the sad truth. When You pick a name like for example “Badass Pixels Studio” or “Kick Ass Productions” it’s really hard to make any game. The name forces You to make games like GTA or Serious Sam. I can’t imagine a 4 year old launching a cartoon game with a crazy intro and a dude shouting “Kick Ass Productions” And to tell You the truth we’re not sure if we wanna go just that one direction. But “Flying Chicken Entertainment” is, I think, a bit different. It’s more flexible. Like “Naughty Dog”.
And I also like the non-english names, rarely known by people from America or western Europe. “Husaria” is just that type of name. It was the main type of cavalry of the Polish Army. Probably the most powerful cavalry in the history of the world. They were undefeated in battle for over 100 years.
Noble gnomes ha ha. That’s awesome.
Didn’t Rockstar Games make Table Tennis?
yes it was just a way to test there RAGE engine
Probably because everyone else had the good sense to give up on a battle that lasted for more than a few months.
I like Beardface Studio
