I’d like to introduce my game, Pixel Myth Battle. It’s a rock, paper, scissors style PVP card battle game, a balance of chance and strategy. There are 3 suits (shadow, light and wilderness) each with a strength and weakness, and each card has a unique character. Players are dealt a hand from the same deck, then they strategically battle cards against each other to try and win the most hands. There are some utility cards that can be used to affect the outcome of the hand.
Then an old friend(Aaron) I worked with a few years ago, said he would help me make it, here is the prototype he has put together: http://www.taketwotablets.com/deal/
With his help, I can focus fully on the design and the artwork! So, I have been making some improvements to it over the past few days, here is a WIP:
We entered the game into the BIAB(Bundle in a Box) Indie Dev Grant, so if you are purchasing the BIAB and like the idea of Pixel Myth Battle, we would be grateful for your vote!: http://blog.bundle-in-a-box.com/?p=798
Thanks for taking the time to have a look at Pixel Myth Battle, this is the first game I am making, so your input would be much appreciated! I’ll be sure to post up the latest progress here so you can see how it’s going you can also follow me and Aaron on twitter if that’s your thing: @MeganEgglesden@taketwotablets
Setting up the website has kept me busy for the past few days. But, over the past couple of weeks the layout in the game prototype has been changed to match the concept, which you can try here: http://pixelmythbattle.com/play/
I painted some backdrops for the Wilderness card suit:
Did a quick test play and it was pretty nice, found some bug though were one card can get an incorrect value, it was a 4 card and was shown as a 8 card in the text. Good luck : )
NinjaRubberBand - thank you! I have thought a bit about magic the gathering. I wanted to make some kind of PVPish game, and it was actually Hearthstone that got me to consider doing a card game. I think maybe Pokemon has been more of an inspiration, the creature battling element of it, and I want to introduce some utility items sort of like Pokemon. Simple childhood games like rock, paper, scissors, and top trumps have had a big influence too. So I guess inspiration has come from lots of places!
virror - thanks for trying the game and for highlighting a bug, I will make sure Aaron is aware of this one.
Jared Wiseman - Yes, you are right! The prototype we have at the moment doesn’t fully illustrate how the game would be played. Its a bit awkward at the moment, as you have to share a PC and just trust the opponent to close their eyes If you look at the concept image in the first post of this thread, that is more representative of what a player should be seeing, with the opponents cards concealed away.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I will be sure to take a look at your projects if you have posted them up
virror - I was just thinking, the bug you mentioned might actually be a mechanic within the game. If you play a trump card, then it will double in value. This isn’t communicated very clearly in the current prototype, its definitely something we will work on to make sure anyone playing understands what has happened and why. But, we will check it out anyway in case it is a bug, so thanks for letting us know about it either way.
Hey, thanks for playing. I found a bug where the scores weren’t resetting when the cards are removed after being used. So thanks for that.
Should be fixed when the next version goes up.
