Plastics is very bad!

This post is cry of my soul due to this very bad solution, called plasticsscm!

First of all - when Unity closed “collaborate”, that has no issues - I was forced to use this crap, since I’m newbie, and don’t know anything about version control, repositories, and tons of stuff. As most people - I want simple solutions, something that wont be more complex than 1 or 2 buttons, that will check in change somewhere in cloud under my account, and when I login to Unity from different device in other edge of world - I want to have 1-2 button solution, that will download me this project, and then I’ll be able to work on it again.
But this shitty plastics started to gave me headache from very beginning,

  1. Need to create new account on their site. By the way - I can’t even delete my account at plastics by my will, still want to do it, but don’t know how, since there is no such option.
  2. Install this as a separate software. It’s part of Unity engine, or if it is - very bad integration, too complex for newbie like me (most Unity user are not pro too).
  3. Complex and separate manual, that require a lot of time just too understand how to configure this shit, with licenses on their site, and etc. Annoying as hell.
After all this crap I thought, that It’s finally working as it should… and for a few month’s I had no problem with this shit… before electricity turned off suddenly, and this shit lost connection to server (no internet). I’m working from laptop, so it’s ok for me, I worked a lot of hours on my code, made a lot of changes in tons of my scripts. Elecricity restored, but shitty plastics started to annoying me with it’s inability to find repository, no human-friendly manual about how to do it, and few hours, of fights with shit gave no success… I was forced to recreate workspace, it’s started to checkin something (I thought, that it will just synchronize project to new repository/cloud or what this shit uses), but instead - it’s just erased hours of hard work… straight to hell/toilet. A lot of very hard work to nowhere!

Dear Unity team, please make sure that your solutions are not as bad as plastics, to prevent other people from burning like me.
Advice to everyone else - don’t use plastics ever!
Probably will get banned for bad language, but I’m very-very upset by losing hours of hard work due to shitty untested/buggy version control solution, that break your project, and erasing hours of hard work. I don’t even remember how many changes and where exactly I made, and now need to get through this work again.

Hi @Bilobog , Sorry to hear about your frustrations with Plastic SCM.

Plastic SCM is a fully featured Source Control Management tool that boasts branching, 3-way merging, the choice of working distributed or centralised, as well as many other features most would consider compulsory for a Source Control Management tool. Unfortunately, with more features also comes more complexity, and I agree, Plastic SCM is a steep learning curve if you are only used Collaborate as a backup system rather than SCM with a team. We continue to try and improve this user experience with the Version Control package, so appreciate your feedback on this topic!

To address the queries you raised…

This should have been created for you during the Collaborate migration, and actually should be seamless if you use Unity ID authentication.

Installation of the Plastic SCM client is not required with the Version Control package.

This is something our Documentation team has been working on tirelessly since we acquired Plastic SCM. Watch this space!

Plastic SCM should not have changed your files without asking you first. If you are experiencing unexpected behaviour and would like some assistance, we would be happy to help at support@plasticscm.com.

Hope this helps!

It’s not suitable for 1-person developer in it’s current state.

As Ollie said, we are happy to arrange a session with you to debug all your issues and provide a solution.
We appreciate your feedback.
