Player object gets destroyed right after level change

I’m having some problems with my player objects right after connecting to a server. I use the HLAPI with NetworkManager. The problem is sometimes (maybe in half of the levels) there are no player objects created. Or to be precise, it is created but destroyed again right after the first level load finishes. When I manually add a player with ClientScene.AddPlayer it works without problems, as well as after level changes when the player is already connected. Just in the first level after connecting it doesn’t work in all levels.

Here are the logs with NetworkManager set to debug logging. While I don’t completely understand all the internals, the message that destroys the player object (ClientScene::OnObjDestroy netId:1, at the end of the log) seems to arrive right after the player object was added. Does anyone have ideas why this could happen or how I could fix it?

I was using 5.2.1 and 5.2.1p1, then downgraded to 5.1.3p3 because headless builds very often crash in 5.2. The described issue appears in all versions.

If the objects are destroyed when loading a level, have you tried marking them as DontDestroyOnLoad?

After long investigation, I found the problem. When a client connects while a level is loading on the server, the player object spawned (with auto-spawn in my case) is immediately destroyed after the level is finished, and no new player object is created for that client after that level load.

I think this should be solved by the NetworkManager internally, but as a workaround I fixed it like this:

I also made a bug report (although without repro, don’t have time to do it right now): 732456

update: I made the workaround for 5.1.3, but it seems that in 5.2 Application.isLoading is deprecated, and I’m not sure if the workaround still works there. We don’t have access to the AsyncOperation in the network manager, so that makes this solution a bit less useful.

Unity version: 5.3.4f1

I’m currently facing the same problem, but in a more particular manner.

When testing with certain configurations this is what I’m faced with:

Unity (host) + Build (client) = works fine
Build (host) + Build (client) = works fine
Build (host) + Unity (client) = client’s player destroyed when the host loads his level

I know it’s caused by the OnClientSceneChanged() since I think the Unity (client)'s scene loads faster than the Build (host)'s scene, thus destroying the player object on the Unity (client).

Scene changes can cause player objects to be destroyed.

I can only start to imagine the amount of problems this causes, like: if a client’s computer is faster than the host’s computer, thus loading the scene faster, his player will be destroyed when the host loads the level afterwards.

Now I’m left to wonder, how will I be able to continue my project with UNET with this massive implementation roadblock?
