Playstation 4 and alone Unity hobbyists

Hello,

Since months and months now I’m always dreaming of something: publishing games on the PS4. I created this thread because I never arrived to figure out weither I will be able to publish on this platform or not.
I almost know by heart the registration process and know I’ll have to create a company, that I’m ready to do.

Is it possible for a single person to enter this world with the following arguments:

  • The game will be simple (to create) to ensure I’ll create something of quality
  • The game will be available as a free-to-play
  • I already released a lot of games (android/ios)
  • My published games are rather popular with millions of downloads and high ratings
  • I’m motivated (lol)

I hope it’s not a NDA subject

Thanks for any reply

If you want to publish on consoles, then you need to go through the process with the platform holders. The first step is signing an NDA, which is why people cannot discuss the details.

If these are true then I can’t see why you’d have trouble getting onto any particular platform. It’s a matter of researching the requirements and having a solid go at it.

May I ask why the PS4 in particular?

@ShilohGames
Thanks for the reply. I did not think it would be a sort of NDA subject again. I had started this topic because precisely I can’t fill these forms at the moment and was asking whether it was useful to do the steps to be able to fulfill all the conditions.

@angrypenguin

Thank you for the reply. I realized I should have be more precise concerning the “millions of downloads”. It’s in total. https://www.appbrain.com/dev/Alexandre+Salou/

I think it’s only affective. I born with a playstation and stayed with. I spent hours searching games corresponding to my style on the Playstation Store and never found good ones. The only one I play a lot is GTA Online but I always end up angry due to the mess that have been done. In both situations, I end up imagining myself playing on ps4 to the games I wish I’ll create one day

If you want to publish to PS4, then you have to fill out the forms and enter into an NDA.

If you don’t want to fill out those forms and still want to publish to a console, you could consider using UWP with Xbox One. With that solution, you convert a retail Xbox One into a developer mode Xbox One. It is not quite a real dev kit, but it is an alternative that you can do without entering into the agreement and requesting a real devkit.

I wasn’t saying I don’t want to fill out those forms :slight_smile: I was saying I can’t fill some infos such as company infos because I don’t have one. And before creating one, I wanted to know whether “people like me” were generally allowed to enter or not

I wouldn’t let that dissuade you. It’s still 2 million installs more than some devs have when they decide they want to get onto consoles. Plus, heck, look just under the stats in the page you linked - 3 of the 6 stats shown are marked as “top 5%”.

It is. And I have to lock this. It is not difficult to publish on PS4 if you get a boutique publisher like Devolver, or reach out to Sony. You may have to foot the bill for a dev kit though if you do not go the publisher route.

I do vouch for Sony. Sony have been very kind to us.

Thanks for saving me time :slight_smile:
