Please delete this! I won’t bother reporting pirated assets in future when people on here just complain and point the finger at me!
Could the OP or a mod please remove the link to the site?
You just told every visitor of the forum where they can pirate unity assets, pretty much.
I believe this is supposed to be handled by email to unity support.
You should look into some of the stuff written on these pages, quite interesting in the most bizarre way. It sounds like those pirates have a more sophisticated system for tracking and punishing sharing of pirated assets outside of their elite pirate group, than the real assetstore does for pirated assets. Mind = blown.
Just to clarify: I think the assetstore should not change, because DRM always hurts the legit customers the most. But you got to admit that it’s insane that pirates basically put anti-piracy measures into stuff that didn’t have it before.
@neginfinity is spot on. I’d never have known about the site and I doubt if most folks here knew about it. Now thanks to your marketing of the site the person is sure to gain a lot more “customers”. Please don’t do marketing for sites like this (every single link created to a site is marketing) especially if you are complaining about such site. As far as we know it could be your site and the whole message just a marketing message.
EDIT: Apparently you were editing and posting the same time I was. Great job on removing the links!
Nah. It is 100% logical.
From position of ideological pirate, it goes like this: “John Doe” pirates assets and releases them for free. For ideological pirate this guy deserves praise because he spent his own money in order to make things available for more people. However, if we have “Joe Schmoe” take pirated assets and releases them elsewhere WITHOUT crediting “John Doe”, then Joe Schmoe is a bad guy, because he stole John Doe’s praise/credit. Therefore it is only reasonable to implement content tracking system.
“Ideological piracy” means position when “all information should be available to free for everyone”.
You post a link to pirated assets, and as a result of that more people learn about the place where they can pirate assets.
PM a link to unity support or Pm someone from the staff. Don’t post it in public.
My bad to post it here, but marketing wasn’t my intention, just I didn’t know how to do it the right process.
I really don’t think its kind to accuse me either of marketing or being the owner of the site in question do you?
Anyways I have now contacted Unity over Email, feel free to delete the thread.
Well, now you know what not to do in this situation.
Honestly, it isn’t the first time something like this happens. Someone find a site with loads of pirated contents (after being on the internet for a few years), gets horrified and posts the link on the forums (with good intentions). As a result more people learn about the site.
It happens.
I see. Never saw it that way because I don’t really understand their “ideology”. Thanks for explaining.
No offense intended. Probably the way I worded it came across worse than intended. Every time you, me or anyone creates a link to any website regardless of the reason we are doing a very tiny marketing activity for that website. We’ve created a path leading from the site where we placed the link to that other website and some number of people (perhaps a few perhaps very many) will follow that path we created.
I’m not saying (didn’t say you are the owner of the site). I said “as far as we know it could be your site and the whole message just a marketing message.” Because people actually use “negative” marketing like this a lot to draw people in and introduce them to a website. It was very common back when I was doing affiliate marketing. I never used that kind of approach but many did. Whenever you searched in Google or whatever and saw search results with headlines such as “Why You Shouldn’t Buy So-and-So”, “So-and-So Is NOT Worth Your Money!” and so forth that was just click bait to lead you to an affiliate marketing page where they then listed stupid reasons such as “The color is red and I wanted blue. If the color doesn’t matter to you then it really is a great product. But for me the color is a real deal breaker!”
The correct action is just to pm a community manager like @aliceingameland or email support. Thanks for trying though.
