Ive had unity 3d now for a few weeks and i have researched many many things and i still have no clue, about how to get from empty to the next cod or so. Im desperate to get the hang of this! So what im trying to say is help me start and also finish and i`ll be more than grateful. Feeling so empty and confused with this, seriously i need help on this one.
Have you tried any tutorials yet? If so which ones? If you ran into a problem what was the problem? If you ask more specific questions people are more likely to help you.
I watched some tutorials from youtube and i didnt get them, im gonna re watch them now but could someone like list things for me, like, this is the thing which make character animations, this is the which parents the camera to the player so it follows it. At the time i just can make weird mountains to the terrain thingy, and make a camera. Also id like to know if there are like basic human models that i could texture and shape a little and how to do that, my goal is a great fps game and i think i still have loooooooong way to that so lets get started.
riiiight, ill have a look
well there is no real like, list of things you need exactly, because it all depends on like the type of project your working on. I find that a good starting place is the unity tutorials, such as the âlerpzâ one, and then once you have the basics down from those tuts, you move on to your own creations, or just build right off the projects, and integrate your own characters/objects/levels/scriptsâŠ
but anyway here is a idea of what you need to do:
-sit down and think real hard for a while exactly what type of game you want (best to keep it simple at first, RPG/MMO or such can be very difficult)
-create some sketch of your âfirst levelâ for your game, then label things on there (player here, big hill here, enemy here, weapon stash hereâŠ)
-decide if your gonna use the default unity scripts for character control (like in the tuts you use them) or if not, learn to script (i prefer C#) and try to hack together your own (check out 3d buzz they have awesome tuts on a 3rd person controller system)
-figure out an art style for your game, is it gonna be grungey? high tech? futuristic? old-timey? then stick with that while you do everything.
-figure out a modeling program if you need one (i recommend maya - but blender is free)
-create your game using the skills that you have, and if there is an area you struggle with ask the unity community for help or build a team.
best of luck! and dont forget that game design is a LONGGGGG process. dont expect results tomorrowâŠ
oh also, an FPS is actually probably an easier way to go for unity, you could make something say, similar to HL2, or COD as you seem to prefer, just using the unity 1st person scripts, and building out levels and weapons and charactersâŠits a totally reachable goal. hardest bit should be the modeling, and thats assuming you keep the engine simple. If your going for a real nice GUI and a fantastic damage system (bullet holes everywhere, ragdoll bodies, houses exploding or whatever) then that stuff will take a good bit of timeâŠ
Ok, i started watching a tutorial but when i click to try the level, i get : All compiler errors have to be fixed before you can enter playmode! Now i searched and found that theres a console in which the errors are shown. Theres scripting errors and something doesnât denote a valid type not found and cannot find the requested method, not i was watching techzone tutorial and i tried to play after making the mountains. Heeelp! Oh and i noticed that some parts in the editor disappear when clicking and some arent even there, like the thing in which i was selecting texture for the terrain, i was like whaa? where them textures at, then i noticed that they appeared there when i clicked on it and rolled the mouse wheel, how do i fix this?? There are eight yellow marks and 73 red ! signs
your best bet to do unity would first decide if you want to use javascript, c# or boo.
if you use javascript you can learn from www.walkerboysstudio.com, and on you tube look for tornado twins.
if you do c# i have some in my channel foxter888 and you can look for burgzergarcade.com
now when doing tutorial just follow one when once you follow it try redoing it by yourself, and try experimenting with the code.
Ok, i just downloaded a ton of tutorials at school to look at home, i have a very slow internet, and noticed, these geeks cant help me at all. All i get is a sleepy 9-year-old making some sort of prick pile, ok i got it how to join two cubes to one, but that`s it.
Soo, if anyone who sees this and thinks game making is as easy as breathing and has a youtube channel, i would like to ask him/her to make a video for me, like simple and clear, doing this makes that happen style tutorial with starting in blank blender project to ending in to a room wheres one enemy to kill to an ragdoll by first picking up a gun, loading it aiming down sight and making the kill. fully textured room( simply i dont want to bother u guys too much) .
If someone needs this info
I want to make the game i have in mind to a real game.
-Fps game with a little nostalgic feeling, u know Duke Nukem 3d style.
-I need a advanced melee system
-I want to model everything by myself, so i need to get that clear to me.
-I dont think i will ever get too good at scripting.
-Graphic style DNF or cod5
I got the impression out of youtube that its very easy to do these model things with blender but not how to.
Thats about everything i have in mind, so sorry if im not typing things the way they should
Reality check time - there is no easy way to make what you are asking for. It takes extensive knowledge, hard work, and time. The games you have mentioned were made by development teams consisting of many professional developers with years of experience.
Also, no one is going to do the work for you for free.
Start small, learn as you go, and one day youâll be able to tackle larger projects. Good luck.
Start simple. Make paper/rock/scissors or tic-tac-toe or a scavenger hunt game. Learn how difficult it is to make that, first. It takes 5 minutes to imagine an amazing game that takes hundreds of people and many years to build.
i am TRYING to start small, the room with the enemy, ive seen peoples games in youtube and i just think it cant be so hard, i make a human shaped thing, make it shoot in a room shaped with blender, painted with textures, using simple scripts, it`s just a puzzle and the pieces fell off the box to the floor, i have to find each one and start from the center.
No, youâre not.
OK⊠basics first. In Unity, make a plane and a capsule. The capsule is your character. Give him a Character Controller component. Then, look into the help documentation for Character Controllers to find out how to make them move around. There are some good scripts there that you can just add to a character to make him move around.
If you really want to learn programming, go watch these:
http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-00-introduction-to-computer-science-and-programming-fall-2008/video-lectures/
The lecturer might be boring, but it will teach you the basic principles of programming.
How to create weapons in blender for use in unity games (cant find any direct youtube video)
How to create characters in blender for use in unity games (same thing)
Note i need to texture them also
Direct questions:
Do i make houses in blender for unity??
Is there a place where i can find a big list of scripts to use in games??
Is it this simple, i pull the things imported to unity from the project box thingy to the terrain and play around with the settings on the right, is it that were i put the scripts?? can i have more than one script or do i need to combine them??Im getting somewhat familiar with unity, but i still cant get the blender thing, im getting a list with the things everything does, but u can gimme links to tutorials.
My advice to you is to first go to the free section on the Asset Store and look for some of the things that you need. Youâre asking some huge questions (whether or not you realize it), and finding pre-made houses, characters, and weapons on there will simplify things for you a lot.
Still want the answers to your questions? Iâll try:
Youâre not likely going to find a direct YouTube video that shows âHow to create a complete character from scratchâ in Blender. It involves 3D modelling, rigging, envelope weighting, animation, UV coordinates, and texturing. Each one is a pretty deep subject in itself. A weapon is easier, because you donât have to rig or weight it, and probably donât have to animate it either.
The site that introduced me to how Blender works is Blender 3D: Noob to Pro - Wikibooks, open books for an open world. I recommend reading through that and trying some of the tutorials. That will teach a great deal about how Blender works.
Do you make houses in Blender? Yes. Almost everything (except terrains, trees, and simple shapes) are made in other programs and then imported into Unity. Unity is not a program for actually making game assets, so youâre going to need to make every texture, music clip, 3D model, etc. in a different program.
âA place where i can find a big list of scripts to use in gamesâ? Thatâs like going to a hardware store and asking âDo you have a big area that I can go to find things for building a house?â It doesnât matter if youâre surrounded by lumber, drywall, power tools and light fixtures, if you donât know how to build a house, theyâll be useless to you. Try downloading some of Unityâs example projects to see how theyâre set up. Read the comments on the scripts to see what does what.
Lastly⊠you have read through Unity Basics at least, right? http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/Manual/Unity%20Basics.html
I think im making some progress here, i`ll tell you when ive made something working
I forgot about this, then i was like oh riight, the unity thing!! i was like ima parent a camera to a pre made character and give it a fps script, make a small place to walk around, i knew how to do all that!!! now unity went all crazy and i had to register it all up again and now this foo says i has error with new unity project, u get that? how do i fix?? Update, i now tried opening a project downloaded from internet (island demo) and now all i get is a flickering web player, and it seems no ones ever had this problem, but bet ya`ll programmers can solve this, it looks like its starting and closing rapidly, and i can see a text web player" any help?
i renamed the project folder now it keeps flashing the web player thing and i aint got no internet on that computer!!
