Please help me! (btw Unity Answers isn't working)

First of all, unity answers doesn’t work. I can’t post a question for some reason, it sends me to an error page. So I ask here:

I just started using Unity for the first time. I’m using JavaScript, not C#.
I made an empty project with a floor and a ball. I made a script with only 1 line of code in the “update” function, which should move the ball (using translate).

It says I can’t enter play mode before all of the compiler errors are fixed. I went to the console and it said something about some strange error I didn’t understand.

I searched the web for hours, and couldn’t find an answer. Here’s the error (I censored the folder names):

Could not start compilationWin32Exception: ApplicationName=‘“censor”’, CommandLine=‘“censor\Unity\Editor\Data\Mono\lib\mono\unity\us.exe” @ /UnityTempFile-599702b8ea451d847a35a615661b9c54’, CurrentDirectory=‘censor.’

If you answer this question, please don’t tell me to reinstall Unity or delete the project, almost everybody I asked told me to do that…

Reinstall unity or delete the project.

Ok, in all seriousness…I don’t know if those would fix your error. Show your script.

And not sure why you felt the need to censor things, but anyways. That’s all I can do to help without seeing some code.

Just to test, if you delete that one script, will it then enter play mode?

If it does, then you need to post the script for us to help you.

If it doesn’t, then yes, you need to reinstall Unity or start a fresh project. There’s a reason almost everybody you asked told you to do that - the reason is because it’s probably the right answer. If the reason you don’t want us to suggest that is because you’ve already done that and it didn’t work, then tell us that.

@StarManta @Brathnann Here’s the script:

#pragma strict

function Start () {

}

function Update () {
transform.Translate(1*Time.deltaTime,0,0);
}

I deleted the project, unistalled Unity, reinstalled Unity and created the same project again.
It didn’t work.

When I google “Could not start compilationWin32Exception”, the first few results suggest that there is something in the compiler’s file path that the compiler couldn’t deal with. In other words, evidence suggests that the exact thing you ‘censored’ from us is probably exactly where the problem is. Where is Unity installed to?

Oh ok :slight_smile: I’ll check the location :smile:

I talked to Unity support and they solved it! I reinstalled Unity in “Program Files” now.
Thank you, Unity team!
