We are a licensed Wii and DS publisher and developer.
We have just started developing a Wiiware title using Unity.(although we have not purchased the Unity Wii license and thus have not tested Unity on our Wii devkits yet)
They are several libraries which we would like to use within our game:
- the Wii version of FMOD: to be able to use MIDI music or a music tracker instead of WAV or OGG vorbis. The two last options are the only ones currently available in Unity and are simply not feasible for a Wiiware title (they use too much storage space).
- Nintendo’s official jpeg decompression library for in game textures. This library has been specifically developed by Nintendo for Wiiware titles.
- Another middleware (which I cannot disclose yet). It has not been ported to Wii yet but it is entirely written in C++ and should be easily ported.
Unfortunately I have seen in the Unity License Comparison chart that C/C++/Objectif-C Plugins are not supported on Wii.
So what would be the process to include and use those libraries in our game?
Step 1: don’t post here, write sales@unity3d.com and ask these same questions so we can have Valdemar (our main Wii developer) discuss these issues with you. Nintendo is generally sensitive to too much public discussion so we handle potential Wii questions like this in private.
Thanks a lot for informing me of this policy.
I was in fact using Unity’s forum as a last resort.
I have tried several times to contact the Unity team by email, sent either to sales@unity3d.com or support@unity3d.com as well as directly to David or to you Tom.
But I never received any reply…
FWIW, I keep all emails, and I mean all, and I have zero messages from the email address you have with your forum account. Additionally when I search our sales@/support@ queues (they all go into a database) I also fail to find any messages from your email account (again, the one associated with your forum account). Did you use that one or some other address? I ask as I’m confused by your reply and I want to be sure we don’t have any missing information gaps going on here. Let me know, otherwise drop us a line at sales@unity3d.com so we can help answer your questions!
Actually no, I sent those emails from my regular business address: l.franchet@kandogames.com
I had also tried to register on the forum but I have never received the confirmation email.
So I asked a friend of mine to register for me and this is how I got the forum account which I am currently using.
Do you find any entry with my regular business address in your emails or in your database?
I see two messages from that address in our sales/support system, both were answered in about a day or so (maybe less). I also see one from you to me directly which was answered the same day it was received. If you didn’t receive replies from our sales/support folks, and if you didn’t receive my direct reply, then perhaps your spam filters caught our messages somehow?
Thanks a lot for the time you spent checking this.
I am always verifying that the spam filter does not block any message unnecessarily. So In fact, I believe that there is rather a technical problem with our website hosting company’s mail server.
It also indicates that I may have missed some other important business emails!
I shall contact our website hosting company and in the meantime use my alternate email address.
