I want to create a plugin which will enable unity to natively imports files from my 3D package and I just need to place 3D files in Unity project’s Assets folder. When I switch back into Unity, the scene will be imported automatically and 3D scene will show up or refresh in the Project view in place. Under the hood fbx will be used for data exchange.
Please advise on this approach and events I need to look for since I am new to Unity Plugin Development.
.
That kind of works already,
if you add .fbx file into folder, it gets imported,
and after you have placed into scene once… it gets updated, if fbx file gets updated.
Or are you looking for automatically placing them into scene also (using some data from fbx file) ?
Nice; it will make my life lot easier. Probably do not even need to write plugin after all. Idea is to automatically update them in the scene once saved in 3D package. I will try this option soon.
I use DAZ3D’s Carrara. It exports assets well to Unity and I want to automate the whole asset in place update for unity similar to other high priced 3d packages.
Thanks; I first placed 3D model with animations in FBX format from Carrara into Unity’s scene. Later I modified animations for the same 3D model in Carrara and saved/overwrote FBX file in Unity’s Asset folder. Unity beautifully updated 3D model and animations inside the scene.
