Pogg - an iPhone game for kids

Edit: Pogg is now out on iTunes and the App Store! Get it, enjoy it, let me know what you think
‎Pogg - kids game for language on the App Store

Hi everyone, just a quick message to mention that I have recently submitted “Pogg”, an iPhone game for kids. It stars Pogg, a little green alien who can do all sorts of things: run, hop, sing, go to the moon, and heaps more.

With any luck it will be available on the App Store by the end of September.

Nice character design. You have just got to mail every purchaser an actual pog with his likeness emblazoned on it! :o

Haha, that would be awesome  I think he’d make a really cute soft toy as well.

Unfortunately I can’t take any credit for the character model - that was an existing model that I bought from Daz3D.

I’d like to take credit for the animation and giving him a personality though. I haven’t seen many other uses of the “Toon Alien” model, but most of the ones I’ve seen have him looking pretty menacing, and many with horns and a gun.

Hi again, just a quick one to mention that Pogg has been approved!

Get it, play, enjoy
Looking forward to any feedback or questions you may have (it’d be a nice break to chat to Unity users again rather than all this marketing stuff I’ve been going through!)

very lovely~~~

I think it’s great that you’ve done one for the kids.
Are you planning on developing more games of this nature?

Thanks
Not sure where I’ll go with the Pogg-style idea, but I’m bound to do more kids stuff. Pogg was originaly aimed at the 5-8 year old level, but during development I found out that my 15 month son absolutely loved it, and I expanded it to cater for a younger audience as well (Picture Mode wasn’t in the original design). I was amazed at how quickly he learned to press the “random” button and see lots of different stuff. That, combined with how much he enjoyed The Bell (my first app)… just shaking it to hear a sound (he loves the lightsaber app too)… it really opened my eyes to how young an iPhone app user could be.

I guess once I get out of the marketing phase of Pogg (only 19 sales in the 1 and a half days it has been out, so I’ve got a lot of marketing work to do!), I’ll be able to relax a bit and pay more attention to the hundred ideas that pop into my head every second… and figure out what I want to do.

My immediate next steps are to create some more actions for Pogg (like riding a bike and going camping), and possibly a language translation or two…

I definitely want to do more kids stuff though. Not sure what exactly, but it would be great to do something that gives kids the tools to create their own fun.

Hooray, Pogg’s first review from an app site has come through and it scored 4 out of 5
