point click

hi,

I’m currently experimenting on an idea. I’m trying to make a point click game similar to old lucas art games (day of the tentacle, indiana jones…). I’d like to use a real photograph for each scene’s background. I’m looking for the best way to do this. currently I tried simply creating a plan, put it in front of the camera and set the picture as its material. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but with a high def image I end up with a very ugly and low def result.

any idea is welcome.

also for next step I’ll need have the picture rendered on different plans, so that the character can walk behind foreground element of the picture and add a sense of depth.

again, any idea or remark is welcome

You probably need to look into texture settings - filtering, max texture size, format, mipmaps etc.
Heres a reference on Texture asset: http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/Components/class-Texture2D.html

As for pictures rendered on different ‘plans’, i guess you just need to put planes with different textures on different depths relative to camera, and add collision handling so that the character cant walk through them.

Agree with previous poster.

You could just cut the part of the photo you need to have as foreground and put it on a new plane closer to the camera.

Might also do well to set the camera to use Orthographic as well so you don’t get a parallax effect when you dont want it.
