I really thought it was silly so many would respond to childish threads such as “Make Unity Pro Free!” as most mature adults would simply ignore these threads. Yet not only do we fail to be able to push these ridiculous threads under the rug by ignoring them, some of the community (which will remain nameless, although they are repeat offenders who seem to get away with their consistent trolling) decide it is productive (for whatever reason) to post mock threads. IMO, this is even worse than the kids who ask for Unity Pro to be free-- it’s far more immature and destroys the integrity of the forum.
I am not asking for much, but first and foremost for the trolling to stop. Spamming the forum with mock threads making fun of children’s request is lower, and awful for the community when it is already spammed so much with “real” threads of ridiculous demands.
Will Unity please step up the moderation, start punishing the trolls, and at the very least put a forum sub-section called “Professionals Only” with heavier moderation and mature topics?
I am actually more interested in the TROLLS to be stopped than for the children to be isolated. Kids will be kids, but there is little reason for adults to be kids.
I don’t think its a gigantic problem, three (four if I include this one) meaningless threads have been created in a very small timespan and there just happens to be no moderator on at the moment. I’m sure once they wake up most of them will be closed.
I know for a fact the same people are doing this. It is not uncommon for the same problematic person to always be the creator of mock threads or instigator of derailing. I severely doubt any moderator has ever messaged him to stop, either.
It is ridiculous, and honestly I am about two posts away from saying to myself, “Unity Forums are a joke. Don’t visit there anymore, as only children and trolls live there.”
If you want this community to have even an ounce of respect, heavier moderation or at minimum a professional sub-forum is necessary.
I actually had a little giggle with some of the unity staff I’m friends with over that. It’s just light-hearted fun, and certainly not what you think it is. It’s more of an observation. I think the word is irony I fully expected my thread to get deleted, not locked. But I am sure it raised a few smiles first.
You sure get upset over that, its just a bit of harmless fun in the gossip forum. I would say this thread is pretty pointless too because the fun threads are usually locked and there’s really no actual harm (that I can see, like abuse or slander) going on. It’s a bit like the MMO threads - sure there’s a lot of them, but a FAQ entry or such could be more productive there in helping people who wish to make MMOs instead of harsh moderation.
A lot of the time, a healthy community will govern itself with a FAQ or just ignoring silly topics like my previous one
@2Dsprite.com - The discussions regrading the price of Unity Pro have carried on in a civil and unoffensive manner, so there is no need for either thread to be locked. The poll started by hippocoder was clearly ment as a joke, and one I thought was amusing in context.
As long as threads start being locked (the copies, I’m fine with the discussion) before the name of the section gets changed from “Gossip” to “Price Discussion”
But on the other hand, it derails, undermines the opinions in that other subject, the jokes is based on.
I had no problem with it, myself… but i can see, how it might confuse, upset people here on the forums, who are actively engaged in this matter.

Thought my proposal for many who can’t afford it is a realistic one.
“Stop Immaturity” you want game people to stop being immature ? if that happens we will all be writing payroll report programs and art people drawing cubes.
As someone with a history of flamebaiting, losing his cool, going off the handle and resorting to childish insults getting threads locked, I can’t take anything you say seriously.
Wow, the responses on this forum only prove how little respect this forum actually has left.
I ponder if some of you are new to the internet, finding this funny after the 10,000th time a mock thread has been created.
It’s very sad that an actual attempt of wanting to save the sliver of respect left on the Unity forums is brushed aside by the very people who are the reason for the lack of respect.
You’d think a company would want to add respect and prestige to its product, not childish babble and young male fight club arguments.
With that said, I won’t say anymore about it- this’ll be my last post. Go ahead and lock this thread please. I’m not going to be posting here anymore. The children spam the forums, and the trolls and usuals are so blended together it’s just sad. I guess the forums are designed for making fun of one another, screaming at each other, trolling children, or other internet drivel. Not even sure why two of the people here attacked me as if I’ve been on this forum before. (Very strange, lol…)
I’ve been around the internet a little too long to find any of this entertaining. After a decade of repetition, the immaturity and trolling of the typical internet user is just dull and empty. Enjoy yelling at each other and picking fights with children. Whatever floats your boat is fine with me, I don’t object, I just desired a little more intelligence and respect from a game engine forum…not flaming youtube comments and 4Chan entertainment.
I wonder if other game engine websites are like this. Usually you find heavier moderation.

I guess I’ve just grown up and no longer find the typical young college-aged male’s typical internet responses in any way entertaining (even to mock). If only the government would moderate some of the more extreme parts of the internet (make Youtube comments illegal, and ban 4Chan from existence, as well as putting all 15-28 year old males in prison or genocide). Ha! It’s a joke too. Freedom is good, even if it creates…internet culture…shudders
