Port Forwarding

So today my xbox decided to mute everybody. Called xbox live support and they told me I needed to forward some ports so that the router complies with some security protocols. They gave me all of the protocols and port numbers. I was told to contact the manufacture of the router (linkys). I was informed by them that in order for them to do anything for me, I had to fork over $100.

So with that in mind, anybody have any idea how I could do port forwarding on my own? (I have the protocols and port numbers)
