Does anyone know if you can use character models created in Poser for games in Unity? (commercial or just for fun)
I’ve scoured the forums and Unity answers but I can’t seem to find anything that isn’t from 2009-2011.
I’m deciding on using either Poser or iClone for my character models but I can’t seem to find a definite answer anywhere about the use of Poser characters in Unity.
That doesn’t matter because you have to pay DAZ $500 just to start using their models then generally 500% of the DAZ Store price for the work of independent DAZ artists.
That and you have to decimate even the very simple Poser 6 based and earlier Poser models to even use them in a game, makes it such that it’s not productive enough to see much discussion. You’re not going to see a game using any but occasional DAZ/Poser model except very occasionally and if you scour the releases. I know because I have a few low poly DAZ models I might use. Using a DAZ/Poser model doesn’t ensure a game of success.
Not really planning on using DAZ for any of the models. (I’ve tried out DAZ and I didn’t really like it.) Like I mentioned before, I’m looking at Poser and iClone for my characters since from a casual view they seem to have similar features for creating and exporting character models. iClone models have been used in Unity, but I haven’t seen anything with Poser. I’m willing to try and see if I can get a Poser model to work through experimentation (even if it does look bad after being decimated) but I’m looking to see if I can use it in a game in general.
Looking to buy either Poser or iClone and hope to find out as much info as possible before I go to buy.
Actually Poser is more similar to DAZ ,but DAZ have nicer Content Creator Tools and a fbx exporter !
Why you compare Poser to iClone, because is totally different?
Well no matter
But if you only have the Option iclone or poser, then choose iClone Pipeline , because you get with iClone more features (animation ,content, facial expression, spring bones , compatible unity fbx export and so on …absolutly not so with Poser.
iClone is basically DAZ / Poser models that they’ve licensed. Search for UMA (Unity Mecanim Avatar) in these forums. It will be a basic version free, can do morphs, people will be adding new content for sale free. You are mostly wasting your time with Poser/DAZ. the HW must be much more capable than it is now to handle them although it’s come a long way. Mobile is worse for DAZ/Poser.
On topic: Don’t use Poser/DAZ for unity. Just … don’t. Either buy one of the tons of good models from the Assets store or (if you need to have a character creator) have a look at Mixamo’s new tool. The Asset Store character are already realtime ready and you are allowed to use them in any way you want with unity.
Poser is best used what it’s primarily designed for: mannequins for rendering purposes. Realtime is a different world with different requirements.
Thanks the_motionblur! It looked like the Asset Store characters were game ready and will probably be great for play testing. I’ll also take a look at Fuse and see what I can do with it. Hopefully I can edit the characters to look like soldiers and not regular civilians.
I’ll probably end up using Poser for mannequins in illustrations in the future. Seems like it would be fun to use for that.
Not all of it is licensed from DAZ / Poser, but much of it is. And if you want Poser / DAZ light models iClone already optimized them for games. Just be sure you have paid for the license and bought all the SW you need to roundtrip the models you licensed. It will cost you $500 and more to get going with iClone unless they’ve drastically cut prices.
it seems you bring some mixed up
Reallusion have her own models ! You can import into iClone any kind of biped fbx rig, so of course a DAZ Character as well
So if you see a Genesis in iClone that is because you can import it ,but it mean not, RL do not have own content. The Pipelineversion come with a huge of content, created by Reallusion developer and is allowed to use in Unity ! Fact !
