Possible bug?, or known issue?

Ive never had to ask a question here, but this stumps me.

Info: 2021.3.27f1 (LTS), using BuiltIn, 3d and 3rd person. Example video and SS’s (PC) Iron and Bone - Community Showcases - Unity Discussions

Ive never run into this. NavMesh wont bake. Before tonight, ive baked NavMesh about 3 times no probs, and only took about an hour. This is with using Unity’s Navigation/NavMesh i select my terrain, press bake, and the “building navmesh” load bar starts. About 30 secs in, it stops/crashes/or resets. The “building navmesh” load bar disappears, and im back where i started, lol.

(multiple/and expected) “GetRemainingDistance, can only be called on an active agent thats been placed on a NavMesh” console errors). Tells me there is no NavMesh. So i work around it and use NavMeshComponents (surface NavMesh). Add it to the terrain, and try a bake. It takes over 3 hours to bake, and once i re-start Unity, its so slow loading (unlike before), that i could go to the store, and it still wouldnt be done. Once finished loading, i press “Play”, and it wouldnt load. So i booted out of Unity, went to root folder, and deleted any NavMesh in the folder.

Restarted, and everything loads and works fine (like before)?. I can give any other info if needed, in over 20 yrs of Unity, dont think ive seen this prob, lol.

Do the editor log files have anything relevant?

Nothing in logs, fixed by re-installing 2021 LTS…

Sounds like you are trying to bake an absolutely massive NavMesh. For my current project, an 8 Km sqr region with the default settings takes about 4 minutes. With a few adjustments I can get that down to about 10 seconds. There’s a very good chance you are trying to make too large of a navmesh with too fine a level of detail and it’s chewing through all of your system RAM. Try raising the Voxel Size.

EDIT: Nevermind I see you managed to fix it by reinstalling. That is indeed very strange.
