Possible Enlighten Tutorials

Hey Unity crew, I have been using the current beta for Unity 5 and I have been really enjoying the ease and workflow of Enlighten compared to Beast. I also made a tutorial series for Beast a while back and I am thinking of doing the same thing for Enlighten, and I would like to know if anyone would be interested in an in-depth tutorial.

Feel free to look at the old beast tutorials on my page and if you think it would be cool, I’ll be glad to: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSeFL6rDfZNRxYroVhf9VhA

Quite honestly i’d love something like that. I’ve been trying to get static objects to cast shadows with enlighten but i can’t get them to work. I’m even thinking of staying with 4.6.2 if this is going to be like for 5 :stuck_out_tongue:

Go ahead, post some.

I’m still working this out, but in my case, GI was too strong.

Seriously, i just want to bake some ordinary light maps with no GI for the mobile/unlit shader as i want the thing to run on a Tegra3 and up. Nothing would come up. I then tried the standard shader and still couldn’t get some shadows to appear. just bright spots.

I’ll have to play around with that. I’ve gotten baked shadows with just luminous geometry and it looks pretty damn good

Wait. You mean without using a directional light?

Yep. Granted they are soft shadows, but it looks pretty good. I am trying to learn how to use emission polygons to light a scene and then use lights to add to them. Below is an example with just luminous geo.

Hm. that’s helpful, thanks. I’ll give it a look. The settings i was using with Beast were for soft shadows, the shadows i had with dynamic objects that moved were with projectors and blured textures. I was trying to produce shadows from directional lights so far.

With enlighten, luminous polygons are treated as area lights when you set them to bake mode. The balance is with trying to make sure that with GI, your scene/characters are not overpowered by things such as emission lighting.

The online content team are working on some Enlighten tutorials, they should be ready for when 5.0 launches.

Good to know. The last tutorials I did for Beast was just for fun and a way to contribute to the Unity Community. I got pretty in depth and will do the same for Enlighten.

That would be awesome, the more knowledge the better!

Where did Rambo go?!

And if you were able to see my beast tutorials, you know what to expect.

Any news on the Enlighten tutorials? I hope you do not mean the 11 minute Unity 5 Lighting Overview.
