Potential Scammer sends me a message...

So I opened my email, and there waiting for me was an email from a random user in the Unity Community (called noah_martin) telling me something fantastic… I was going to be able to get the source code for a really popular game, normally worth $149, for FREE. Even better, I could publish this source code as my own on the Apple and Android stores.

TL;DR: A scammer seems to be using the Unity Community to send out bait messages to community members. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Below is the message I was sent:

Dear,
I hope you are doing well.
We have just finished a popular game called Roll The Ball and is going to sell the source code for 149$. This game is in Top Free Game in many countries including US, UK…
Before selling, we need a few developers to test the game and give us your valuable feedback. That’s why we send this message to you.

Download the source code:
Unity 5.5.3 or above is required.

P/s:

  • You can publish this game to Android and iOS store if you like.
  • Please share us your feedback.

Thanks and best wishes,
Exceed Studio. [/INDENT]

I received something similar.

I spilt my coffee.
Someone needs to tell UT to send them the next tutorial.

But yeah. PM me the link so I can laugh a bit. I have offline virus benchmark machine ready.

Report, ignore, forget about it.

There were people occasionally trying to sell source code, the question is why aren’t they using asset store for it…

It was $99 last night!

Yeah, report him, obviously.

Sometimes these are legit and people are actually under the impression that what they’re doing makes perfect sense.

It does make perfect sense. To them.

Makes perfect sense.

Here’s the clue!

You’re not the only one and apparently that guy owns multiple accounts to spam.
(See Is this a real email from Unity? & Can this please stop?)

I bulk deleted that account and messages the other day. If you still see them or he is doing it again, report the pm, and we’ll get rid of them.

I’m not sure what thier logic is, as the are giving away the code. Though it does have some compiled elements in it, it could be potentially malicious or redirecting ad traffic.

I’m three days late here, but I will not let it stand if you diss on Marble Madness.
