I have spent a lot of time looking for affordable pre boned models to streamline a mock up… I figured since there are so many pre-built models available, there must be a lot of pre-boned and weighted characters out there, but they aren’t easy to find.
I’ve been through the usual fight of trying to import DAZ stuff into FBX for Motionbuilder and have even bought a few things from TurboSquid. I just haven’t been all that impressed. However, I just found this tiny little company that actually has some neat pre-made fbx’s and thought I’d share it with anyone else in Unityland who has been down this road. The company is called CUBIX studio, and they are at www.cubixstudio.com . Their model packs are about $20 and (while kinda simple) are a heck of a lot better than some of the more expensive stuff I’ve found.
I haven’t completely rebuilt their stuff to suit my needs yet, but their .fbx imported into MB for me perfectly, with animations… Is anyone else using these types of things?
Forgive me if I shouldn’t have started a whole thread on this, but I figure if anyone else has been looking for this type of thing the way I have, a thread on it would be nice.
And NO I don’t work for Cubix Studio
Wow! Those models look great. Do they do custom models/contracts at all?
Also, since you have a pack, would you mind putting together a quick demo in a web player so the rest of us can see how well the models/animations import and integrate into Unity?
Might as well start a compilation of sites like this so here is one I visited from another thread.

I agree that we should start a list of places that we can find these types of things!
As I am a beginner with Unity (I just bought an Indie license very recently) I am probably not the best person to do a demo of the Cubix models in Unity yet. I have rigged and animated the model in Motionbuilder, however, and it seems to be working just fine. Their naming conventions are different than MB’s, so I just had to pay attention to their hierarchy when assigning the bones to the rig and make a few stiffness adjustments, but that’s easy stuff (I mean if I could do it, a monkey could do it). I would, however, be happy to work out a way to get you what you need for you to mock something up into Unity to show us that it’s integrating properly. Given that the Cubix models are dirt cheap, I imagine others could do this themselves too… I would do it immediately, but I still have so much to learn to do anything worth looking at.
I wrote Cubix a letter and asked them if they are available to do consigned work. They haven’t responded yet (holidays and all), but when they do, I will post their response. They seem like a small company, so I’m betting they’d be up for it.
If anyone else has any cool sites for things like this, post it!
AWESOME! I LOVE this community!
Dont we all
Edit: Just as a note. On Arteria you don’t have to pay for the yearly subscription, you can also just buy per set.
The wiki and I aren’t on speaking terms.
OK! Cubix Studio replied to my inquiry. I asked them if they are willing to build custom characters. It turns out that the studio is as small as we thought. A young lady named Evi wrote back and informed me that she IS the studio. She does accept contract work. She is very personable, and is very humble about her work. Her upcoming character pack features a sci-fi soldier that looks promising. (here’s a link to what she’s working on:

If you’d like to request custom characters or animations, Evi’s email address is mycubix_support@cubixstudio.com
I told her about Unity3D. She sounded curious about the whole thing. Maybe we’ll see her here soon.
StarManta, let me know what you need to see how well her packs integrate out of the box ( david@bigpowerfulmedia.com )
