Hi everyone,
I’m new to Unity and the forums and wanted to take a few minutes to present myself and ask for some tips. I’m Jonatan. waves
Me and an old colleague recently decided to start our own little game developer collective after having been out in the world working at Media Molecule in Guildford and Gameloft in Shanghai. In our team we’ve got quite the bit of experience and drive, but for all of us this is the first project in Unity3d. Neither of us are programmers at the core, I’m an audio guy and he’s a 3d artist, but we can do a fair bit of coding and we’ll likely bring a programmer on board sooner or later.
To keep it fairly simple but exciting we decided to go for a top-down alien pirate dungeon crawler set in the atmosphere of a gas giant. Some inspirations for the gameplay include Diablo, Asteroids, Privateer and Pirates. The game will likely contain elements of shooting, looting, 2d exploration, upgrading and outfitting of the ship, maybe some resource gathering and trading, and dialogue with parrots and unscrupulous cephalopod outlaws. Oh, and we thought we’d start right away with making it multiplayer (not massive).
Now, before we spend all of the six months we’d planned for the first prototype doing things the wrong way, I thought I’d ask if there are any invaluable add-on tools available that we should be getting for this type of game.
Looking forward to spending some time here in the community. Thanks!
