So, I’m average when it comes to programming, but crap for graphic.
I’m thinking about making a tcg (Trading Card Game) for personal use (portfolio building). Of course, I wouldn’t take credit for the designs.
Was wondering how would I go about getting price checks done on a few Card examples, A generic card for monsters, spells, traps, etc.
So I would only need 1 card for each category, I could just change colors for different types of monsters for example, or different spells. The artist would leave space for a name, and a description / graphic with some space at the bottom for card stats (dmg/health)
Has anyone done work in this field and know how many hours it would take to design 3-5 cards?
If you need any related work, look at some of Blizzard’s new game in the works, “Hearthstone” or their website.
Thanks in advance, I’ll bookmark thread for easy viewing.
You should probably post this in the other section and get quotes.
Probably have to be more specific in your post.
3-5 cards would be a very short game.
sorry, I meant 3-5 card designs (just the layout, and leaving the name, desc, and graphic blank)
see what I mean? I or somebody else at another time can go in and change those 3 areas without any problems.
You’ll most likely need to provide more specific info about what you want. Quotes will vary a lot. Based on experience, region or the world the artist lives in, etc.
I don’t know how to be more specific than that though, it’s just a generic blank card with a design like shown above in one of blizzards video for their game. Just leaving out the hardest jobs (each card’s center graphic/name/desc)
the artist would only just design the border of the card kind of the same way blizzard did with their game.
And they would only need to design 3-5 different cards with similar style
example card:
They would leave out card’s name, picture in the center, and desc. And as an artist, they could put their own little twist to it, make it unique.
If you’re willing to charge 25 to create one of them cards you must be working from a slave camp. When you think about the time it would take to create a card of that quality, id say 50-60 is far more reasonable, more if you're after something done well, People can charge a good 100 an hour.
guys…the frame design for that is what is considered “simple”. The card up there has no design to its borders, its basicly flat surfaces layerd ontop of eachother to provide details.
100$ for this is way too much, i can do something like that in 1 hour, then u just play With colorbalance to create diffrent themes and Paint in details.
That card is handpainted tho, not much else. I’d say 20-30$ is good enough for me per frame IF they change in design. Fully animated characters goes for 50-100$ a piece, if they are 2D sprites or bone animations.
we’re talking about the frame here, not the Whole illustration within the card, those og for alot more than 100$ since they can take 5-10 hours to Paint.
The price very much depends on who you ask. A professional will likely cost you around $200 to $500 a day while other will be way below that price range but in the end you get what you pay for. If you after high quality it will likely cost you a few more bucks. Cheaper is not always the better solution. Secondly, what might be cheaper at first could very well cost you a whole lot more down the road.
This is actually some of Bjorn Hurri’s work here as he did many of the concepts for “Vikings - Battle Of Asgard”. You can check out his other works here:
