Price of game servers?

Hi guys , I was thinking of making a game with Multiplayer functionality but many people have said that servers can be really expensive. I didn’t find any website on internet that could tell me the price or is selling servers.
Do you have any idea what is the price range for a game server. Suppose it’s an FPS game.
Or if you know a website from where I can buy servers , please tell me

Hey, maybe something like this, looks pretty cool: https://cloud.google.com/solutions/gaming/dedicated-server-gaming-solution/

It certainly doesn’t have to start out expensive at all. When you are just starting the smallest virtual server will do just fine and they are dirt cheap whether you use ec2, azure, google, or something else.

Well depends really how much power you need, an old HP Proliant isn’t worth buying over a new I7 system with a raid array. What you get additionally with a server is a redundant power supply in case of fan failure, but if you’re doing it on the cheap it’s not a massive issue…

Dependant on how many client / server connections and processes you need, I’d just go with a regular desktop with a lot of oomph…!

Proper servers are expensive, it’s only when you need mass amounts of processing power does it become a consideration.

Unless you’re trying to start a hosting company, it’s easier and cheaper to just rent VPS from companies like OVH, Amazon, Google, etc.

When buying the server, you also need to provide proper conditions for it to operate (right temperature, etc.) which brings costs of electricity and so on. So it’s cheaper to rent VPS from established company - there is monthly fee involved, but it’s much less that what you’d pay yourself monthly for things like electricity, hiring administrators, and so on.
