So, I have a friend who works with me at my job, this person has is amazing artist and i’m curious on what I should talk to her about when it comes to commissioned based pricing on ideas I give her to create for my project.
What would be a reasonable route of going about this?
A good start would be to ask her how much she would like to get paid, not the other way around. Propose that you want to commission her for game artwork, then ask her what her prices are or what they would be. It’s up to the artist how much they get paid, not you.

I know and I have. She said anything I want to pay. Which puts me in a rutt, like I don’t know about artist compensation.

If she’s hesitant to set prices, consider asking her how many hours she thinks a specific commission would take. If you think she may be underestimating, bump up the hours a bit. Then, if you have a general idea of her hourly rate at your current employer, round that up a bit and multiply it by the number of hours. It’ll probably be higher than you originally thought, but you’ll get better work from her. Since it sounds like she hasn’t done a lot of commission work before, she’ll probably underestimate the hours required. By bumping up your offer price, she won’t end up feeling resentful near the end (when you really need her to focus on polish) when she starts to run over her estimated hours.
