Primulus. A Sci-Fi Sandbox Simulation.

Hello Everyone!

A friend and myself have been working very hard to make our own Sci-Fi sandbox simulation game. We’ve been working consistently for quite a while now and are just now releasing what we have to show the public. Mind you, we’re still in the very early stages of development and everything is subject to change. Check out our website and forums and follow our blog for more information about the game at:

www.primulusgame.com

This game is heavily inspired by Byond’s Space Station 13. We’ve taken a bit of a twist with Primulus and instead of being on a space station, you’re on a moon (Primulus) that’s orbiting a gas giant. This will allow some planetary exploration and lots of other fun features (Like catching native alien creatures. What?). We feel it’s a bit of a new dynamic that adds a lot more opportunities for the player. Hiding bodies isn’t going to be as simple as throwing them into the empty void of space. A lot of the atmospheric calculation and depressurization is quite the same as SS13, though. More information about the game can be found under the “Primulus” section of the website.

For those that aren’t familiar with Space Station 13, it’s an online game where players take on a job on a space station and they simply have to do that job for the duration of a round. A round can last any variety of time and a round ends when an escape shuttle has left station and docked at another station. During any round on the station, lots is happening. Some people may be traitors and it’s their goal to wreak havoc on the station in a variety of ways. I can talk about the features of the game all day but what makes the game so fun is actually experiencing it and being a part of the story. The game is a lot of fun and I would really recommend checking it out if you don’t know of it already. Here’s a link to the game:

We’ll be consistently updating the blog to keep the community informed. We’re quite passionate about the project and we hope you’re just as excited as we are. I’ve compiled a few (4) screenshots to show you what we have already.

Again, we’re still in the early stages so everything is subject to change. Within our first month we have zone based atmospheric calculations implemented. Each room has a set Oxygen, Nitrogen, CO2, and mystery gas level. They each have a set temperature and pressure level that, when breached, equalizes to the pressure of Primulus. We have basic grid based construction set up, as well. We have a lot more planned for the game and have a long way to go. We hope you can join us during the development of this game and I hope you’re just as excited as we are. Thank you for your time!

Good luck on this game! My first interpretation before looking at closer detail is, 3D Faster Than Light.

Thanks! It’s actually more of a simulator. The player takes on a job on a research facility located on a moon to a gas giant. However, as they’re doing their job, stuff is going down around the facility.

Nice screenshots! It looks like you’re keeping the models low poly, could this be coming out on mobile devices?

Thank you. Unfortunately, no, it’s not going to be coming out for mobile. We’re keeping everything low poly so we can minimize the graphic requirements. We’re also doing it so we can allocate our resources to more essential gameplay mechanics.
