Pro licence use

Hi, a colleague told me I can use my U3 Pro licence on two machines so long as they’re both for me.

One at home, one at work.

He also said I can use the same licence to licence 2.x and 3

Is this correct?

Thanks.

Prior to the U3 release the U3 licenses worked on U2, unsure if this still holds

Yes, you can install Unity Pro on two machines as long as you’re using both.

No, the Unity Pro 2.x license will not activate Unity Pro 3.x. You need a separate license for that.

As you can’t buy U2 licenses anymore and he asked about his U3 Pro license, I think his interest is more the versa way which previously worked (all licenses sold since march or so were U3-xxxx so U3 licenses, no longer U2 licenses)

Unity 3 licenses apparently do work on Unity 2. I installed Unity 2.6 on my new computer a couple of months ago and never registered it, but now it works with Pro features and says “License Type: Unity Pro, iPhone Advanced”, even though 2.6 obviously doesn’t include any iPhone publishing.

So if you already upgraded to 3.x and you need to transfer your 2.x license to a different computer, would you still be able to? Fortunately I transferred my 2.x license to my new computer before buying the upgrade, but if one of my systems die I wonder if I’ll run into a problem?

If you have a 3.x license, you don’t need your 2.x license at all.
