I created the temple in maya 8.5 but I only see part of it in Unity 1.6.2. The tablature and templeRoof do not display. The materials are missing.
I had included all the materials (blinn) at the same time.
What’s amiss?

You can have more than 1 material on a specific object-Perhaps theres only one and the polies with the other materials are transparent as a result?
Theres a small triangle in the inspector which you can open and then increase the material count.

Check your normals too … might look like it’s not there but it could require normals to be flipped?

I followed the temple tutorial in Maya 8.5. I imported this temple in Unity. I am missing all the meshes that were created using NURBS but the polygon meshes are displaying fine in Unity. I went back to experiment with the tablature and the roof with polygons. I then imported the temple again and viola - the tablature and roof were also imported.
I hope it is not too obvious that I am new at Maya.
Anyway what is going on with the NURBS?
Sorry Guys but the suggestions did not help.

So converting the nurbs to polygons fixed it? About 18 months back I experimented with importing nurbs and the normals were facing the wrong way, so as Jdubs said, It might be a case of reversing the normal.
But if you’ve tried that…
It could be a good thing for all the Maya users here to find an autodesk forum somewhere where we can ask all our maya questions specific to unity and try and establish a means of communiction from their side. So the Maya Devs can be conscious of the Unity connection and can explain some of the process from their point of view…There could be a lot of cool stuff that we just dont know about…
Does anyone know such a place? This is where Martin stands out as being such an awesome human being with his dedication to the Cheetah-Unity pipeline.
Cheers

In Maya I always work in Polys if going into Unity, Nurbs got popular for a while and are for TV stuff IMO, and lately polys are back! If you find something easier to model with Nurbs, then prior to importing to Unity you should convert to Polygons and texture the Polys. I don’t do this often ( if at all ) as getting a lean poly mesh result can be tricky.
A good workflow is to model in Maya, and make sure everything is ploys, then import to Unity. When the meshes are all good, start texturing. After you’ve textured your poly meshes, update in Unity ( and update as you texture also ). This way you can overcome problems quicker as you eliminate certain aspects:i.e something isn’t visible … everything was fine when you imported meshes so it’s probably a texture or UV problem.
Hope this helps,
JW.
P.S: Targos, theres nothing that I know of like the forum(s) you wish for … Maya comes second from Autodesk to 3DS Max ( their baby ), check the Area site - there’s rarely Maya updates compared to the masses of 3DS updates … Alias Wavefront were FAR better, especially for OSX users. Good luck trying to get anything out of Autodesk. It’s like pushing crap up hill
