Problem with anti-aliasing

Although anti-aliasing seems to remove the rough looking edges from my character it seems to cause the texture to look a little patchy as seen here:

This was originally a smooth grey color , the problem only occurs after turning on AA. Any ideas on how I can keep AA on but prevent the texture from getting distorted?

The texture is RGB 16 uncompressed and I’m using a vertex lit shader , I got the same result with a regular diffuse shader too.
