Problem with Maya rigged character in Unity

Hi, I’m getting somewhat desperate, so any help will be gratefully received.
I have very low polygon character, that Ive rigged and skinned in Maya 2013, and Im having severe issues with the weighting/skinning/ something?.. on the fingers once i import into unity as a single pose animation,
Ive added screen shots of what Im seeing in maya, and how it appears in unity…
I am utterly baffled by what is going on, Im wondering if anyone out there has any ideas what is going on here?

Triangulate your model by hand. Choose Mesh > Triangulate and see how does it look in Maya. If it’s broken you need to fix it in Maya first. Nevertheless, exporting already triangulated meshes is a good practice. Otherwrise a game engine might break something. Also make sure you use the latest FBX exporter, currently it’s 2013.2.
