Problems importing objects from Blender.

I’ve been creating 3D objects in Blender for use in Unity. While in Blender, I often duplicate meshes and place them parallel to the original, then i connect the vertices and make faces to build my objects. I find that this often leaves one side looking smooth while the other side is discolored. Everything looks fine when i hit F12 (Render) but when I import them into unity they are often missing pieces on one or both sides. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? I’d appreciate any feedback.

Make sure the face normals are all pointing in the correct direction.
