ProBuilder Keeps Dropping New Cube in Scenes

Often I’m unexpectedly finding a ProBuilder cube in my scenes when I’m editing them. Any ideas?

Never mind. Pinned Shape Tool window was doing it.

Thank you for posting what it was causing it! I was running into the same thing, and never would have thought that a tool window being open could be the cause.

I still think this is a bug though…

This was happening to us too. Removed Probuilder from the project because it was so annoying. Made it completely unusable. They really need to fix it.

Edit for easier google searches:

unity keeps spawning cube
probuilder keeps spawning cube
object won’t stop spawning
unity spawns cube on play
spawning cube on play

This should be fixed as of ProBuilder 4.3.0 and up. Can you please check Package Manager and make sure that ProBuilder is up to date? At time of writing the latest version is 4.4.0.

Thanks kaarrrllll, I updated to the latest 4.4.0 and I’m still getting the same result.

If the ProBuilder shape tool dialog is open it create a shape on play.

I removed the package and installed again from 4.4.0 but the problem persists.

Solution for now is to have the shape tool dialog closed.

The Shape Editor has a preview object that is always present, is that what you’re seeing in the scene?

If so, I agree that this does look like a bug. The preview shape will be destroyed when the Shape Editor is closed, but while it is open it is a part of the scene. I think it should probably not render in the Game view at all while it is a preview.

@kaarrrllll Is there not a way to just have a toggle if users would want this preview to pop up?

Because like everyone has mentioned it is an annoyance when you’re iterating your scene and it pops up right in front of the player.

Yes, we’ve redesigned the shape creation process for the next update and it no longer includes the static preview.

Now probuilder with pinned shape window spawns a cube when entering the playmode. ))

Facing similar issue:

  • Press New Shape
  • anchor Shape tool in an existing tab
  • build few shapes and remove them
  • put Shape Tool float again and close

Now, on play mode it appears an invisible mesh with collider.
By closing and reopening Unity, it’s back to normal

yes, closing both the probuilder AND the shape window tab resolved for me. running 2020 latest version probuilder
