Procedural Animation on a 2D mesh?

Hey Guys

Basically I have a character, and hes 2 Dimensional, (2 textures, one for front one for back). cut out into a 2D Mesh (similar to a plane but say with legs)

Is it possible to procedurally animation this guy so i can make the leg vertices move around?

Im not really sure how to go about this

It’s possible, but it’ll probably look pretty funny.
