Hi guys, I made it a point this summer to save enough money to buy City Engine, and I finally took the plunge :).
Here are a few screenshots from one of my first attempts showing how it looks inside Unity:
It’s about 150k polys and currently only uses 4 different materials to texture the whole thing. It also runs at a solid 45+ fps on my 3 year old notebook. Over the next few days i’ll be working on adding scene/street elements and I will have a video with some actual gameplay very soon. Please let me know what you think!
I think he made it in city engine then exported it into unity. How ever the real question code wise is did you create your own rule file in city engine to generate the buildings or did you use another persons rule file? His title for this post is misleading it is a procedural city yes, BUT its not procedural in unity every time he runs his game the city wont change in layout. So its not a procedural city in unity its a city engine city exported to unity. But so far it looks real nice tho keep up the good work.
This is a basic rule file from City Engine which I modified to add additional detail to the buildings and to get a little more randomness between them.
City Engine is not cheap I can assure you. There are free ones out there like ghost town for 3ds max and I know theres one for blender but I can’t remember its name. Although I prefer city engine.
