Sorry, this might be a too off topic question. But, I wish to publish my game portfolio soon with my professional job email soon.
I really have a problem to create a professional job email, because my name Alan Chan with my yc middle name initial is way too common inside gmail. I have tried everything like alan.yc.chan, yc.alanchan, yc.alan.chan, alan.ycc, alan.yc.c, and nothing still works. I even have tried alan.art.cs and still does not work in gmail. The cs stands for computer science. And, I think adding numbers like alanchan99 is not really a professional email. So, I finally have give up trying to find a gmail. So, I am looking forward for Outlook email instead. I heard that the Outlook email is more for a small business owners, because Microsoft have created Outlook and those Microsoft office that is kind of for a business usage.
My main question do you think Outlook email will be outdated someday after many years later? In this video, it said you should never use a out dated email service provider. But, even though this video told us to create your own email domain to stop your email from being outdated. I still do not feel like creating my own email domain yet.
Making a domain is the way to go. You can get a .com and hosting extremely cheap (well under $100) with unlimited email addresses and it’s pretty easy to setup.
Are you still suggesting making my own domain is a better idea? Even though I want to find a game job inside my short term goal. Because, I think most people who is creating their own domain is actually their own company domain name instead.
Oooh so people like the guy in the video are the reason all good domain names are taken with no website being hosted on them. I see, I see.
Well if I come across someone that owns a domain just because “it makes their email look serious”, and don’t actually host anything there, I’ll just assume they’re “not taking bidnis seriously”.
I think we’re talking about domains like alanchan.com, where one’s email address could be alan@alanchan.com and one could host a resume, rather than something like worldsbestgamestudio.com with nothing hosted there.
I look at alot of profiles over at artstation.com, couldn’t care less about their email actually. But I dont need to copy it or write it manually I can just click the e-mail symbol and Outlook-starts with the email predefined. Maybe if I had to write it manually I would reflect more over it, maybe…
