Program suggestions for making animated sprites?

Hey guys!

So I was wandering, what is a good free program for making animated sprites? Anything cheap or free?

Cheers!

If you’re on windows? GraphicsGale! It’s just over $20 for the full version and it’s fantastic.

i was just really into pixel art and was using aesprite, i dunno why but on pixel level i just could not get along with Gimp but this may have been a mental block, it might have been the deluxe paint nostalgia mind

it draws to pixels, has a grid, and allows a custom palette, something fairly pointless nowadays for anything except pixel art

I found texture packer a pretty good one for packing up an animation. As for making the animation frames themselves? Well, any good animation software is a good idea :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless you want to have it cut up and do in-game animations with a skeleton or something.

ASEprite!!!

Pro Motion. Though it is a bit more aimed towards pixel artists these days.

We’re also using Illustrator for our sprite artwork.

I don’t do much sprite work these days, but I imagine Photoshop would be a great tool. Aside from just being fantastic with art, it also has an animation window which could really be helpful when designing your animated sprites.

I like Aseprite for animations and things. Pixelthello looks pretty good for tile editing, since Aseprite currently doesn’t have that yet. I haven’t actually used that one however, so I’m not sure if it’s actually as good as it looks. :stuck_out_tongue:
