Programming language for Unity.

Hello.
I was wondering about, I can use c++ in unity3d or it’s only c#.

And why have you taken c# istead of c++?

-Ahlmo

C#, Javascript or Boo

Unity uses Mono/.net…C# is .net. And C++ suxx0rz (plus it’s not a managed code scripting language).

Ok ty. What language would be best of that you named?

if you have C++ background then clearly C#

Boo is for python lovers, while UnityScript is likely for those without any programming background or flash alike backgrounds

Ok thanks.

Where to learn Boo?

Boo tutorials etc can be found through google.
As for the unity side: well you will need to get a feeling for how JS stuff looks in Boo to use the unity functions. There is no Boo / C# function reference.

Ok thanks  I will take a look on c#

out now i have an off topic question for u  How do you get the iphone developing tool ?

When you buy it, Unity Tech e-mails you a download link. You’ll need a mac to develop for iPhone though.

Okay :frowning: is it posible to install mac on a pc, if i order it ?

OSX can only be installed on very specific hardware and legally actually only on Apple machines, as such no. You need an Apple Mac with Intel Processor and OSX 10.5.7 or higher (the cheapest Mac ie the Mac Mini is sufficient)

Well Then willni need to buy a mac

Note that Boo isn’t supported on the iPhone for some reason.

Is UnityScript the same to JavaScript ?,

As a non-python lover, it’s also for programmers that want to save our pinkie fingers from typing unneeded semi-colons at the end of statements and other extraneous syntax symbols like brackets and doing ten type casts per line

Yes, what Unity calls Javascript is actually a proprietary language with syntax similar to Javascript. Which is why many people here refer to it as UnityScript.

would a MAC mini (1,28 ghz) with Leopard 10.5
could develope iphone applications, or it need more?

if that mac mini is an intel mac (PPC macs can’t do any iphone dev at all), then yes but if you want occlusion culling it must have an nvidia card, intel cards can’t do that.

Do you have a mini-mac / Mac in your mind, you can propose?
