Project Desert

I’m happy to announce my first real Unity project, codenamed ‘Project Desert’. Nothing fancy yet; a desert with moving particles and a crappy skybox. My current goal is to make the desert more convincing and well yeah… deserted! I’m hoping to acchieve this via the following:

  • Better skybox
  • Sound FX (wind, footsteps)
  • footprint decals
  • Day night cycle
  • Preventing the player to reach ‘the end’ (edge) of the desert

If I have acchieved all these things (which will be hard enough already), I would like to take things a bit further and make it an openworld sandbox (no pun intented) game. I’m talking about explorable temples, cities, quests,…

Feel free to try out the current build:

Oh, please keep in mind that this is my first serious project with Unity, so only constructive criticism please.

Rather than a skybox, use a sky dome, then you can have more convincing moving clouds and colours etc. The desert looked a bit too orange for my liking aswell. One thing I did like was the rippling in the sand. Keep at it.

Hi, could you please add some pictures to the first post so that it matches the forums rules, also ensure to frequently update the thread with new information / development status.
