Project Dispute Help.

Hi guys,

Wondering if I can draw on your expertise for some help as a customer. I hired a guy to produce a 3D animation of a talking unicorn for an AR app project I’m working on for kids. The problem is that the app developer is unhappy with the output and the creator blames the developer. The App developer says the mesh in FBX is bad and that the animations do not work. The animator says that the developer doesn’t know how to use Unity 3D properly but I’m in the dark as I’m not a Unity user or designer. Can you please help me find the source of the problem so that I can referee these guys and help to resolve the dispute to get the animation done?
I uploaded the files to WeTransfer here.https://we.tl/t-rBydORfz1q

Thank you for taking a look, Matt

Hi, here is a vid of all of the animations and how to check them:

Here is your project back (updated to the latest version of 2018.4. It was in an earlier 2018.2 version?).

I added the animator to the object and the first animation clip to it on loop. Seems to play fine for me.

I mean, the clip lengths are very long. If they loop at a certain place, they should only be long enough to play exactly once. But that can be adjusted in unity. And I not sure those are the animations you wanted? But they are there and they do play fine in unity.

Here you can see the mesh. Its not great and probably has too many verts, but its not the end of the world I am guessing. I guess it all depends on how much you paid for it.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help. I have the animation running now but no audio. I’ve been clicking around for 10 mins but can’t find where it’s disabled. Grateful for a steer. Thanks again.

Animations clips dont (ever) contain audio. Audio clips would be separate. Didn’t see any audio clips in the project. The unity animator component doesnt trigger audio clips directly. You need to setup a controller to handle that.

Thanks again for the advice. This has been challenging first intro to this kind of project and it fell short of the realism I was hoping for (something closer to 3D Unicorn - TurboSquid 1173966 and with more natural expression)

Don’t know how much you paid for it, but something that has very high detail, flowing hair, animated, etc, is going to be expensive to be custom made. The more detailed generally the worse it will perform in a game as well. I don’t know what expectations and requirements were communicated to the modeler, but perhaps you could be more clear in the future.

That model on turbo squid, to duplicate the quality it appears to be and include high quality animations, I’d expect to pay between $1,000 to $2,000 before even negotiating with the modeler.

Agreed. Why not just buy that model and have it converted into a format supported by Unity? Then have an artist adjust the colors or use as is?

Thanks for the advice gents. This was only for a few hundred $ but the animator’s confidence seemed high to produce something close to the sample, script and explanation I sent. I’m working with another animator on a second project now for much more, and planning to use ready made models from Turbo Squid and the like. This first one has been a learning experience. Thanks again for your help.
