I’m just getting started with Unity and was wondering whether anyone could provide a ballpark figure for the amount of development time required to produce a basic 2D platform game for the iPhone in Unity, given a moderate level of competence using Unity.
I realize every project is different, but any insight would be helpful.

If all your assets are ready 2 weeks to a month of development time for a middle-range iPhone game can be expected.
Now of course, as you have noted yourself, this is a ballpark figure that I deduced from averaging what has been said on the forums and IRC chat room.
Make your first game, then you will get a way better figure, as not only are all projects different, but developers’ skills, workflows, resources are too.
