PROMISE that Unity WON'T EVER, EVER, EVER sell out to microshite!!!

Hi,

Simply wanted to MAKE COMPLETELY SURE that Unity WON’T EVER, EVER, EVER sell out to that horrible company historically registered by bill gates and the relatively wonderful, although kinda shafted Paul Allen (ignoring the very evil balmer).

Think I had been in denial about the fact that I was coding in C# (basically a copy of Java) and that visual studio had been included in the Unity installer…

Anyway…any person that has read the sad joke that is the outsourced microsoft support forum (oh wait…maybe those crappy outsourced employees got an h1b at some point…sigh…WHY OH WHY!!!) and experienced the NUMEROUS crashes in windows and so on KNOWS that any software company acquired by microshite would be turned into a flaming pile of **** soooooooooooooooooooooooooo fast, it’s not funny!!!

I have invested YEARS and like to believe that the company known as Unity is not going to sell out and that the product is not going to turn into a pile of poo, outsourced to low quality hack-stuff-together-and-hope-something-answered-by-Western-or-Japanese-programmers-on-stack-exchange-can-make-it-vaguely-function C# employees in india and similar nations.(or turned into such by imported low quality employees from those same nations that ruin outsourced software)

And no, not talking about Eastern European nations…at all…

Yes, I know the Surface line of products is well designed. The main section of this post is NOT talking about microsoft hw…although that line was also a nightmare for early adopters.

Mainly talking about microsoft software and software support and management and administration…has often been a horrible pile of poo.

Anyway, thanks in advance for not betraying all who love Unity. AKA: DON’T EVER SELL OUT to microshite or similar companies!!!

There are few absolute guarantees in life.

One of the main reasons why I dont think Microsoft buying Unity will happen is that a lot of Unitys strength comes from the number of platforms it supports. And no matter what Microsoft promised on this front, we might expect an erosion of user and non-MS platform (eg PS4) trust over time, diminishing the value of Unity. So, despite the C# stuff I dont think they are a good fit at all and I dont lose any sleep over this stuff.

Do you know what else is well designed? Microsoft’s development tools.

I’m with elbows in that indeed there are no guarantees, but it isn’t likely due to all the platforms Unity supports, which would create a conflict of interest.

That being said…if they could somehow remove that conflict of interest, it could be good for Unity overall. I don’t know the numbers, but I wonder how much more money Microsoft has than Unity. Like all game engines, Unity has pros and cons, and sometimes throwing a huge wad of money at something helps remove the cons(sometimes creating other cons in the process though).

Now what I personally think would be better, is that they don’t sell to anybody. I don’t think anybody who could buy Unity would have the same interests as the original Unity founders. It isn’t about the conflict of interest I mention above…more about in general the beliefs of Unity as a company, and the fact that no 2 companies think the same as far as the best way to develop a project, the direction it should go. That being said, I think Unity could use some improvements of course(that’s another topic that’s been beaten to death already).

Since Unity is a private company we only have third party estimations. Two years ago that was $1.5 billion.

Microsoft by comparison was valued a few months ago at $650 billion.

Microsoft has $126 billion in cash and equivalents.

That agrees with my point that Microsoft could throw a bunch of money at Unity development if they bought it…but like I said, there is no guarantee it would be the same development that Unity would originally have due to a likely conflict of interest.

WOW, I’ve never paid attention to just how much money these companies have…if I could get like 0.01 percent of that microsoft money I could live a good life and never work again.

Microsoft is far more platform friendly these days. Both Visual Studio Code and Xamarin Studio (Mono Develop) continue to support other platforms.

Not the place for this kind of thing. Closing.
