The flat shading (if the chosen style) is going to create gameplay issues, as evidenced with the building showing the same colors on the outer and inner walls. The doorway becomes invisible without some type of shading. It creates some complex design decisions to be made, but can be overcome with an intentional focus on colors.

The sound fx (probably placeholder) would match the current aesthetic if they were more cartoony. They sound too realistic compared to the visuals used.

Mechanics seem sound from what is shown in the video.

For gods sake man they’re called Magazines not Clips! XD =D

That’s actually interesting. In military terms - nobody uses the proper term ‘magazine’. They either say clip or mag. But @ brings up a good point - not everyone is a military vet so the term magazine, or even more generic - ammo cartridge would be more accessible to a wider audience.

To take this further - what purpose does the ‘clip’ count have for the player?
Why not just provide the player with the number of bullets they currently have in the weapon and overall ammo count?
Other games give a current and overall count something like this - 150/30. This lets the players know each ‘clip’ carries 30 rounds, and they have an overall total of 150 rounds. When the player fires the gun the right number (30) counts down to zero. When hitting zero either the player reloads or the game reloads for the player. Then the count would read 120/30.

And most shotguns don’t use clips.

Terminology is probably not what you were looking for in terms of feedback but magazine is the correct term.
(These days, clips in use are really only stripper clips/speed loaders etc.)

Also in the interests of accurate information, I want to highlight that this…

is completely incorrect… Mag and magazine are both used commonly and interchangeably.

To offer some more relevant feedback now that I am here:
Concur fully with theANMATOR2b’s first post.

  • Art issues regarding visibility of buildings.
  • Depending on what feel you are going for in the game, the gunplay OR animations are serviceable. A slower paced game that fits the animations probably needs a bit more attention on the gunplay. The current gunplay (lack of recoil etc.) is probably suited to a bit more faster paced game.

Regarding ammo tracking
Tracking ammo via magazines is fine however I would suggest it is a deliberate design decision. Currently, based off your video, when you reload you lose the magazine (48 second mark). Players will not like losing ammo…
Options:

  • Avoid mag counts, have a current rounds tracker that forces you to reload but just reload to full from the bucket of bullets you are carrying (ie. An arcadey reload mechanic - as suggested by theANMATOR2b above)
  • Full implementation (Track mags, whenever you reload, reload using the mag with the highest number of rounds in it)
  • No reload requirement at all
There may be other options and the choice comes down to your game design.

Regarding the feedback request in general:
I would recommend fleshing out the original post with more detail; ie. what is the game going for (genre, feel etc) and what are you specifically looking for feedback on. While this information is likely hidden somewhere else in (perhaps your original?) forum post(s), not everyone will have the time/inclination to go back through them.

A quick summary of the game, what this update is specifically about and what you are looking for in terms of feedback as well as a concise video highlighting the key points will give you more focused and actionable data.

edit: Also are you using any FPS package or is it all self coded - this will inform feedback areas.

I assume in this instance, from the video title it is something like

  • Zombies are added and they now have AI (Nothing to give feedback on here)
  • New art style (what was it? What is new about it? This is probably a good area to highlight regarding feedback)
  • Additional weapons added/ aiming down sights/ etc (Are you looking for feedback on any of this?)

I stand corrected - in boot camp - out on the range - a drill instructor/Sergent will use the proper term ‘magazine’ -
In battle nobody says “I’m out throw me a mag-a-zine” :sunglasses:

^^ solid advice, though if the current aesthetic is the direction the game proceeds along - consider staying away from mag tracking as that is much more realistic than the games visuals relay. Reloading from a ‘bucket’ as @MickM explained fits the current ‘style’ well.
