Publishing for business use

Sorry if this has been covered before. I didn’t find any relevant posts in my search.

Most of the work I do is not games related and I was wondering if there’s any legal way to publish an app for the iPad without having to submit it to Apple and go through the app store? Is my only option to add the client’s iPad in the iOS Dev Center?
I’m thinking about business to business apps like displaying an industrial model with touch functionality.

Thanks!

Apple has three distribution models that I’m aware of:

AppStore - you distribute your builds to everyone.
Ad Hoc - you distribute your builds to upto 100 people of your choosing–builds expire in 90 days.
Enterprise - you distribute your builds to others in your corporation only.

Thanks, Ostagar!

Do you have a link to more info about the distribution models?

Thanks

I can’t find any info about expiration. Where did you get the info that an Ad Hoc distribution expires after 90 days?

I don’t the know the official page for that, but I’ve experienced my profiles expiring. Renewing them was no joy. Perhaps the timeframe was slightly different than I remember and someone else can confirm.

i confirm the necessity of Renewing after 3 months. ( For Ad Hoc )

OK, thanks.

So, does the app simply stop working on the client’s iPad after 3 months? Or is this only an issue on the development side if, for example, you want to make changes to the app?

The moment the provision is invalid, any application that used it for signing will stop working too.

The way to release applications for iOS, that are not for company inhouse use, is appstore. There is no option to that offered, apple has no interest and does not accept and tolerate people self selling. Their target is simple: Application makes money → they get their share or you will learn that apple has no problem revoking provisions immediately

Don’t see whats the problem with putting an application on the store for business to business usage, there is a reason why application prices of hundreds of USD are fine and usable on AppStore (unlike android which is laughable restricted on price and filesize end).

If the app is business specific and in reality inhouse only, let them send you their enterprise provisions so you can sign a specific version for them and sell them that

Thanks, dreamora.

Well, any kind of public AppStore will be out of the question since we’re dealing with sensitive, patent pending material quite often. I’ll have to look into the enterprise provisions instead.
This is quite a headache, but I guess it’s understandable that Apple wants to make money
