Purchase new Mac Mini?

Is the new Mac Mini (either version) better for Unity development than the previous model? Thanks!:face_with_spiral_eyes:

The high-end version definitely is.

The $599 model is definitely faster than the 2010 model, the $799 model adds a real gamer graphics chipset which makes it a lot faster.

Can you post the spec of those models or at last the names? I’m a bit curious, because I saw someone selling a mac mini for a realy cheap price, but I have no idea how good it would be for unity.

There are the spec of the mini that I was looking at…

procesors: intel core 2 duo 2 ghz 3m l2 cache
ram: 2 gb ddr3 (1066) max 4 gb
video: geforce 9400m 256 mb
hdd: 120 gb sata 5400
porti: 5 usb; 1 firewire 800; 1 mini display port; 1 mini dvi; audio in; audio out; 1 ethernet(10/100/1000);
2009. october

Dont get a mac d:

Why not? D:

Unfortunately Apple doesn’t name their different upgrades of computers within the same line - all Mac Mini’s are, well, Mac Mini’s. You can tell if it’s an old (pre-2010) Mac Mini if it’s a small box with a white plastic top. The 2010 Mac Mini is a low-slung aluminum slab with a slot for the disc drive in front, the 2011 Mac Mini looks the same as 2010 except it doesn’t have the slot for the disc drive (2011 Mac Mini has no optical drive).

The 2011 Mac Mini comes in 2 basic configurations:
$599
2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
2GB memory
Intel HD Graphics 3000

$699
2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (for an extra $100 you can upgrade to 2.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7)
4GB memory
AMD Radeon HD 6630M

Well, the one I was looking at was from 2009 as that was already listed… I was just wondering if it would work fine with Unity or if Unity requires a little bit more horsepower…

Depends on what you do with it. I have one of those old Mac Mini’s at work, and it’s definitely not as fast for moving around a Unity level in the editor as my 2011 one at home. But it is functional.

Unity runs fine on much older hardware.

If you are developing in unity for ios an old mac mini is fine because the ios device don’t have so much graphics power.
I have a mac mini with a Intel core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz 4 GB ram and i can run everything fine.

Is the NIVIDIA GeForce 320M in the 2010 model preferable to the Intel HD Graphics 3000 in the 2011 model?

I’m considering to buy the new Mac Mini (2011) and am wondering of the difference between the $599 and $799 models as far as unity is concerned. Is it worth the upgrade? Will there be a significant improvement in performance while running unity on the $799 model?

the HD Graphics 3000 runs just fine with unity, i have that in my macbook pro, and i never had any problems with unity or any other game… the performance is pretty much equal to the 320M included before in some macs
